This redevelopement of Port Adelaide (as in the whole area). Will only happen if developement happens all over the place. It cannot stop at just these few. Port Adelaide has the potential, we just need more proposals like this and BAM, we have a gold mine.

When the total investment of this project is completed it will be a new port, no doubt about that. This will transforn the whole area of the port. We just need to be patient and enjoy witnessing the 'birth' of the new port.
Correct me if i am wrong, the new port is expected to take 10 years to complete.

yes no delays as developer failed to come out with new plan even after applying for extension.

Anyway, some people do grow as the go, mentality. I am talking about myself.
Over last weekend, I actually drove down to the New Port Quays housing developments to have a look. First impression, I was glad that some new developments are actually happening. Second impression, not so good, the designs were not as great. Third impression, wasn't very impressed at all at the lack of public spaces and access.
True to what the local council had been opposing all these whiles which may prove to be true. I wouldn't say it is a hundred percent true, but if they based on the current site of the stage 1, it really is the case.
Time will tell if stage 2 is as inaccessible as stage 1. Is it a bad thing? Yes, because only ownership buys you access, while the local council wants a win win situation, where the developer gets to develop and earn their part of profit, but locals would not missed out on this developments just because they cannot afford ownership.
Those are simple true facts, but because the councils and local communities went overboard with hopeless facts that are totally irrelevant just to send a message, unfortunately, it doesn't work that way, which is why they are getting more and more aggressive. But the fact that the local council are actually pushing the developers to be more responsible towards public accessibilities is a good thing, but a bad thing if all proposed plans are rejected, while arrogantly, refuses to work with the developers towards the benefits of every body, if that is what they really care about.
One thing I find very amusing in the ways the local councils works with developers in South Australia is, they are selfish each to their own, unwilling to co-operate with each other to come out with a resolution, but to cast doubts and point fingers all the time, splits the communities into half, which one siting one each sides.
Stage 1 - bad layout design
Stage 2 - have to wait and see
Stage 3 (or 2B and 2C) - good but not that clear in the proposed plans.

Don't get me wrong, it's very good that National Trust has finally been brought down about at least ONE thing and it's great that we want to rejuvenate the port, but what we're doing there may not make it at least slightly similar Circular Quay in Sydney or the Docklands in Melbourne or the Brisbane riverfront OR Perth’s new waterfront developments. Why am I comparing a suburb of Adelaide to other cities’ CBDs? I’ll tell you why, because Port Adelaide is the only significant waterfront area in all of Metropolitan Adelaide where we:
•have the space to make something iconic and attractive for tourists
•a council that may realise that it is the 21st Century (Glenelg’s ‘rulers’ are a bunch of... )
BTW, i just returned from Canberra and Sydney and am going to Melbourne next month.

Is the Port redevelopment going to be a place for tourists? So far all I've see is residential towers, a place to live. Possibly they learned from the holdfast shores development that they first need enough people living there to make the restaurants/entertainment/commercial/tourism viable. It also helps if it looks less like a building site/dustbowl and done more in the final stages.

someone on the railpage forum reckons the first ever train will cross the new opening bridge this Sunday arvo at 5pm (the old stonie train from Barossa). Didnt even know it was close to being finished. Once the bridge is fully operational, no more freight trains will travel via Rosewater, Port Adl, Ethelton line
