[COM] SGIC Building > GHD Building Redevelopment
[COM] Re: #U/C: SGIC Refurbishment
Yeah the glass is looking fairly good on the lower levels. I would have preferred that lighter green glass between floors to not be so light. Hopefully they can soon get on with the upper floors (occupied) overall it looks terrible with the different coloured glass at the moment. Just have to be patient I suppose.

I can't help but think it looks a little silly, especially when the cladding around the new glass podium is so different to the rest of the building...

I agree but am assuming that they will change the rest of the building?SRW wrote:I can't help but think it looks a little silly, especially when the cladding around the new glass podium is so different to the rest of the building...

The render, though not clear, seems to indicate otherwise. I wish they would.monotonehell wrote:I agree but am assuming that they will change the rest of the building?SRW wrote:I can't help but think it looks a little silly, especially when the cladding around the new glass podium is so different to the rest of the building...

You can't tell exactly from that render, but it looks like they intend to give the rest of the building the same treatment. Which would be good as the current part glass podium, part refurbed windows and remaining old windows looks horrid.SRW wrote:The render, though not clear, seems to indicate otherwise. This building is not going to look any better than it was, except that there will be more light and less heat transmitted into the offices. It's a pity we can't have dark glass and more light at the same time. Maybe those window boxes should have gone too, but that would have been an extra expense (and think about those poor sods trying to clean the windows without them).
Cheers

But compare the contrast between the newly refurbished levels with the older levels (I think?) the difference in the quality of light makes for a large improvement. I'd be quite happy if that's all they did, apart from the Western elevation where that large blank utility wall exists. Not sure what they could do with that.Ho Really wrote:This building is not going to look any better than it was, except that there will be more light and less heat transmitted into the offices. I don't know about you guys but I'm really not impressed at how this is turning out. I had such high hopes too
Though I did walk past SGIC at 4am this morning , so I might have a better look sometime this week during the day.

That's when I do all my building-spotting.crawf wrote:I don't know about you guys but I'm really not impressed at how this is turning out. I had such high hopes too

For some reason, though, I never seem to recall what I've seen.

You are correct in saying the quality of light is the major issue, and I'm all for that. Improvements to the Greenstar rating are important as well. Unfortunately the clear glass (with the minimal tinge) is not making the rest of the building any better looking. It would have been nice if they changed the cladding, but that would have been an extra expense I'm not sure the owners would have wanted. The blank wall could be re-clad with panels like those on VS1 or the Commonwealth Law Courts. Is that a good idea?monotonehell wrote:But compare the contrast between the newly refurbished levels with the older levels (I think?) the difference in the quality of light makes for a large improvement. I'm surprised they haven't gone the whole nine yards and refurbished the entire building. In my opinion, wouldn't the building's value be somewhat higher than what it was previously, because it would be of a higher quality and standard, marginally comparable to buildings built in this era. It just seems like a good financial reward, should they ever vacate the premises, but from what I understand, a half-arsed effort might indicate that they're happy for the time being and will be there for some time.

I think this is an iceberg refurb (nine tenths of it is inside) so there is considerable value being added to the tenancy, it's just the external elevations that are not changing all that much. I do like the new glass panels in the windows, they seem to liven things up a lot. I haven't even paid much attention to the ground level podium as yet.Shuz wrote:I'm surprised they haven't gone the whole nine yards and refurbished the entire building.
