Re: The 'new' King William Street and North Terrace
Exam went fine but the pace was furious. Buggered up my right hand in that it was still twitching somewhat an hour after I finished. Wrote down 8 pages in a little over 2 hours and one of the first to leave. Anyway, back on topic.
Re: The 'new' King William Street and North Terrace
The north terrace and frome road intersection redevelopment is nearing completion. Does anyone know if the slip lane onto frome road will be constructed again, as it appears that it is being covered over with new side walk for pedestrians?
Re: The 'new' King William Street and North Terrace
It's being removed as far as I know, there's too much pedestrian traffic around. Adelaide drivers don't understand that pedestrians have right of way, I've had a few near misses there myself.frank1 wrote:The north terrace and frome road intersection redevelopment is nearing completion. Any photos would be appreciated.

Atd, not much at all to see yet. In a couple of months I'll get some photos, once the UniSA old mining building has had its makeover done

FUNDING IMMINENT: A City-Port tram line is expected to be announced in the State Budget.
A CITY-Port tram line, possibly running down the Port Rd median strip, will be one of the big ticket items in the June 5 budget, the Portside Messenger has heard.
Port Adelaide Enfield mayor Gary Johanson says he is "reasonably confident" of securing funding for the light rail project while Opposition transport spokesman Duncan McFetridge also believes a funding announcement is imminent.
"We're hearing rumours the Government is going to announce something in the upcoming budget," Mr McFetridge said.
He said electrification of the entire rail system was a "no brainer" and the Opposition would support the Port light rail plan, subject to examining the finer details.
Port Adelaide Enfield Council first proposed the tram line idea in 2006 and submitted a $224 million concept plan to the State Government. It included running a tram extension along Semaphore Rd.
Mr Johanson said he would prefer a tram line to run along the Port Rd median strip and then through Commercial Rd, Port Adelaide, rather than following the existing Outer Harbor rail line.
"It's a dearer option but it's a safer option," he said, adding that people would feel safer using a tram line in full public view.
Last week the Portside Messenger reported the Property Council of Australia had backed converting the Outer Harbor line to light rail.
The Rann Government has stated several times it is interested in the idea but remains non-committal.
Last December, Deputy Premier Kevin Foley said $1.5 billion would be spent upgrading Adelaide's ageing rail system but the details have yet to be released.
Transport Minister Pat Conlon's spokesman Matt Clemow told the Portside Messenger this week the State Government would not be commenting on budget issues.
Mr Johanson said it was unlikely the council would contribute significant funds towards the project.
"I don't see that councils would necessarily pay for public transport," he said.
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
I won't 'squeal with delight' until it is actually confirmed in the Budget. All this speculation, just like "Transport SA may be moving to the CBD". That was meant to happen last Budget and it was delayed. I will be happy if this is confirmed in the Budget and it is a decent plan, until then who knows.
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Mmmmm, sounds good!
However, like UrbanSG, I'll wait until the State Budget is released before I blow the Party Poppers and open the tinnies None the less, the prospect of catching a tram from the bay to the city and then to the port is sounding very nice indeed (especially if the line will be made H class friendly!)

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
But this new line up port rd won't be called the Glenelg Tram Line will it (looking at the thread name ) shouldn't it have its own name like; "line 2" or the "Port Adelaide line"...
Anyway sounds great, of course i will be waiting to see what the budget says. But i'm still not sure about what will become of the present rail line which has only recently been relayed with concrete gauge convertible sleepers. Will TA just rip it up and sell the land or will the Rail corridor be retained as an express line to the port???

Re: #Proposed : Port Adelaide Tram Line
Because the article only stated that the line was going to go to Port Adelaide only, I'd imagine that the Outer Harbor line will be reasonably safe since it carries onto Outer Harbor past Port Adelaide. In addition, it has to serve the Grange line branching off at Woodville. The article didn't mention anything about the Grange line being converted so I think the mainline will be kept as is. We just need to see what is going to happen in the budget.

Re: #Proposed : Port Adelaide Tram Line
Mike Smithson wrote this in his column in the Sunday Mail last week:
The State Budget will be handed down in early June. My early tip is a major transport announcement, possibly revamping the main corridor from the city to Port Adelaide.
Some transport gurus say that an electrified light rail system or a tram down Port Road is being actively discussed.
A tram proposal would see an extension of the well-patronised North Tce service, which is a Rann success story.
The light rail mode would use the existing track to service the expanding Port housing and defence precincts and then could join up with the city tram track.
Such a plan would be in the right lead-up cycle to the next election. The Government needs to give this state the jolt that it wants, needs and deserves.

Re: #Proposed : Port Adelaide Tram Line
Absolutely awsome i'm overjoyed this will transform Adelaide and it's suburbs no doubt. History in the making.
Re: #Proposed : Port Adelaide Tram Line
I'll bet you all a million bucks that a tramline will never go down the middle of Port Rd. They havent put gauge convertible sleepers in for nothing on the existing line, to be converted
Re: #Proposed : Port Adelaide Tram Line
Umm... the Noarlunga line is getting gauge convertible sleepers as well?
Re: #Proposed : Port Adelaide Tram Line
quite right Norman, but for a state that spends near nothing on PT, what do you think will happen
1. Utilise an existing rail line that already has bridges, sleepers, rails and level crossings, and convert it to light rail, or
2. Spend 10 times the amount, by building a whole brand new track, a mere 20-50 mtrs away, parallel from the current one, down the middle of the road because it is closer to something such as ???????????
