No, this will start early next year and will be completed at the end of next year... close to the completion date of the South Road/Anzac Highway Underpass.

The overpass design looks great. Now if they built something similar at Goodwood Rd, they could get rid of this Transport SA rule of no more than 1 tram per 5 mins at level crossings, and we could have trams every 3-5 mins in peak hour to Glenelg or halfway.
The idea of adding an extra section to the flexities has gone quiet. I wonder if there will be talk of this in the next budget, which has signs of spending on rail/public transport.

Not to mention Marion/Cross roads needs an underpass/overpass also. East Ave, Beckman St and Morphett Road would be the only level crossings.

Looks like the span isn't wide enough to allow South Road to be expanded to 3 lanes each way which seems a little short sighted....

Apart from that it's a great looking design.

I think its only concept art at the moment - maybe you should express your concerns as part of their consultation process?

But why confuse the public? Do they actually want the public to point this out to them? :?

Remove? It's just a terminus to allow the tram to reverse direction and switch tracks. So if the track were to be extended they'd add two tracks all the way around I guess. Unless they go for a single track with a unidirectional service or single shuttle to save space.

It's not likely that a single track extension would be constructed, particularly if a decent frequency of services is required to run the line. This is one of the same issues causing capacity limitations on the Belair Line.

Just a thought - this particular design (ie. an elevated station built as part of the bridge structure) could work where the tram crosses the rail lines at Goodwood and create a proper tram/train interchange with Goodwood rail station...

I've often thought that too - great idea.

Way back in the 1970's when, of course, there was no interchange, I thought designers must have run against finance issues/resistance. (if the idea even surfaced at all between 1929 and the 70's).

Despite the fact that this looks like a pretty good proposal, I bet that it will be scaled down so much by protestors that the Governmnet will have no choice but to leave it as it is because it ruins the skyscape of the area.
BTW, I'm not critising the Government on this one, I'm stating the fact that the conservative minorities are going to probably win this one too. Let's hope not though.
I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back. :)

I doubt it. There's already the Cross Road overpass just up the road.

Glenelg line tamping complete

#1979 Post by BillD » Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:47 am

In the early hours of Monday morning (30th of June), we find the tamper ouside Glengowrie depot. It and the ballast regulator are about to cross over to the up track before making a short trip to a ninety ton limit crane which is waiting outside Morphettville racecourse.

I'm having a ride on the Glenelg Tram later to check the new track quality. Thanks for the photos Bill.
