This means we'll have a continuous non-stop route from past Gawler to past Noarlunga, depending how they figure South Road.

Surely this was to be expected once the Northern Connector was announced? It would have been ridiculous to have a set of traffic lights at the intersection of two concatonnated freeways. Hey! Where has the spellcheck button gone?
cheers,

No, late 20's. You know how these things go. Talk, delay, talk, delay, talk, change mind, talk etc.

I was having a look at the timeline for completion of the Northern Connector. At the moment, completion is scheduled for 2017/2018. And how long will it take for the feasabilty study, design, propsed route, aquisition and construction of a free flowing South Road. Not to mention the Southern Expressway duplication.

By the time all this is done, I could be 50 or 60. So who knows, I might not make it till then....

Well if you want to see freeways within your lifetime then u should move to Europe. Germany is full of complex freeway/motorway networks plus a massive public transport infrastructure.

Too bad it's also very expensive, their public transport and cost of living, especially rents and house prices.

Cheers for the suggestion, but i've already lived in the UK for 2 years. I cant get another work visa unless someone sponsors me. Whilst there I was working with Transport for London on a 12.6billion pound public transport infrastructure programme.

Are there any images publically available for the proposed Port Wakefield road overpass ?

Clearly any new bridge structure would have to be compatible with the ultimate design of the new Port Wakefield road planned for the middle of the next decade otherwise it would only have a lifespan of a few years.

I also note the folowing ABC news article which highlights an expended project and more land aquisition.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008 ... n=business

It will be interesting to see what the final price tag is. A major road project to the south of Perth (currently under construction) which includes the extention of the Kwinina freeway from Rockingham to Mandarah and the construction of a connecting a dual carridgeway bypass to the east of Mandurah was originally expected to cost $450 million. This has now blown out to $710 million and climbing.

With regard to lead foot lanes at signalised intersections, one was recently removed from a major intersection to the east of Perth for safety reasons. This was done as part of an overall intersection upgrade. The through (non-turning) lanes at that intersection on each side was reduced from 3 to 2.

The Northern Freeway has already blown out from $350m to $550m, so I don't expect much more of a blowout.

I'd be a bit cautious in saying that. With a record level of infrastructure projects going on around Australia and a tightening supply of materials and skilled labour, it's quite possible that the final cost of the project will be higher than $550m, particularly if the project faces delays or setbacks of any sort. The cost of new infrastructure projects is soaring. Case in point, take a look at the Queensland Government's recent decision to increase it's funding input to $850m into the PPP deal struck with the BrisConnections consortium that was awarded the Airport Link in Brisbane recently as the cost of the project has recently increased to $4.8 billion (there are other reasons for the increase other than tightening resource and labour supply as it is effectively 3 projects in one).

Yesterday I drove the Sturt Highway from Gomersal Road down to beyond where the Northern Expressway will be going off. The Sturt Highway seems to be getting an upgrade to freeway standard as far as Nuriootpa, I think. This will make for a freeway standard highway from Nuriootpa all the way to Port Adelaide in a few years' time. It's looking good 8) .
cheers,

The precursor to this isnt going to well aka Port Wakefield Road Upgrade.

Cant they bloody fix one small piece at a time to have minimal impact
on traffic rather than doing a piecemeal approach over 10 km and causing
major traffic delays.

Those delays are expect to last until December...
