I was tempted to go, but probably would have missed it - 9 News showed 2214 as light engine crossing bridge, but apparently
this morning, while I was still thinking about it. Beautiful footage, which I didn't record. Normal services expected later this

A 14-STOREY tower is among four apartment buildings in the revised design for the next stage of the $2 billion Newport Quays development.
The third stage of the Port Adelaide waterfront redevelopment project, worth $300 million, will feature about 500 homes – up from 421 in the previous design – and 100 marina berths.
The three 12-storey towers in the original design have been reduced to seven and nine storeys in height.
A high-density, 14-storey "iconic" building has been added. The new proposal also includes more cafe, dining and retail space, improved environmental features and a greater focus on the Port's heritage.
The amended plans were lodged with the Development Assessment Commission yesterday.
Newport Quays spokesman Todd Brown said the new design took into account concerns raised about the original proposal.
"We have spent a lot of time making sure we got it right," Mr Brown said.
"We think the new design is going to leave a great legacy for Port Adelaide and South Australia. It's stunning."
The Newport Quays consortium, made up of developers Urban Construct and Multiplex Living, have reworked the original proposal following criticism from Port Adelaide Enfield Council, residents and the National Trust over the size and scale of the project.
The new design will be released to the public soon and a decision is expected in about 10 weeks.

It's great that Urban Construct has considered adding more facilities that would encourage use of the new waterfront by the public. I'm reserving further judgement until Urban Construct releases the plans. Although I would not be surprised if there was still public opposition to the one planned high-rise building, it really shouldn't be as great an issue as many people make it out to be.

Yeah as much its great to hear Urban Construct is now proposing a 14lv apartment tower for Port Adelaide, I am more happy to hear that there will be more commercial space for retail outlets, cafes, restaurants etc aswell as a greater focus on the port's heritage.

My initial reaction is disappointment at the removal of the 3 x 12 level buildings. However I await renders, until I make further comments, because on the other hand it sounds like the new proposal will be more attractive from the ground.

Now that I look in the actual paper today, there is already a render of the new design as an overview of the four apartment buildings. The 3 shorter buildings look quite ordinary, but the taller 14 level building looks a bit better than the previous proposal. Hard to tell what will exist at ground level for the public from the render though.

I am bitterly disappointed by the latest design. In short all the new buildings look bland to the extreme. There is nothing stunning or visually interesting about it, even the so-called 'iconic' 14 level tower. It appears that the latest stage is yet another second rate compromise design. Just like what happened with the last stage of Holdfast Shores is happening all over again. I am sure that when constructed the NIMBY groups which campaigned so passionately against the previous design will have wished they could tun back time. This is another case of be careful what you wish for.
The previous design had an iconic tower, a true landmark. The sexy curved tower sitting over the water was a genuine landmark.
Now we are left with 4 bland boxes. How mediocre designs respect the heritage of the Port, I don't know.
