Ofcourse, that is open to conjecture but considering the looks of the V/locities and Hunter Railcars delivered to Victoria and New South Wales, they should look good. I suppose the only way we will know is when they release renders like they did for the Flexis. I don't know how many railcar sets use the Noarlunga line although I do know it consists of 2 4 car trains in peak periods. The Tonsley line only needs two railcars allocated.

I havn't heard anything about new diesel railcars having been placed on order here or interstate yet. The two types I have already listed are also to the more diesel hydraulic layout. If or when I hear anything official about new railcars down my grapevine, I'll let you all know.

muzzamo, if you have a look at the Seaford railway report which I have posted the link for in another thread, you will see that $56million has been budgeted for 14 new railcars.

What has me worried is the diesel part of getting new trains. why doesn't the government just spend some $$$ on decent track and electrification and just do one line at a time and introduce more electric trains as more lines get converted, then we can be rid of our awful 3000 sheitbox trains which i'm sure Melbourne will buy cause they pretty much are copies of the Comengs

and on the topic of new diesel railcars around Australia, i heard that Melbourne might be getting middle sections to make their V/locity's longer or something..

That would be precisely what they are doing my converting the port line to a tram.

The V/locity railcars are having a third cabless section built to go in the middle of the current railcars forming a permanently coupled 3 car set rather then the current two car set. The centre sections are already being delivered from Bombardier to V/line.

I would have to double check but my interpretation was that was a "costing" for the railcars, not "budget" as in money set aside.

Back on topic the old shelter at oaklands has now been demolished.

Work started on the demolition of the shelter at 10pm on Saturday night and when I was there with Norman the following morning, the entire building other then some of the concrete foundations for the former signal box had been completely removed. Should it serve as any surprise that the quick demolition time can be attributed to AllState Demolitions. Part of the Adelaide end of the platform has also been removed.

Because the building was mainly built out of asbestos and there is an active running line on either side of the platform, it is smarter to do such demolition work when there are less people around as well as less rail traffic. Night times on a weekend are popular times for rail authorities to do track/large scale station work without too much disruption to rail customers.

thanks for the photos....

Its a shame that a lot of this station is going to be a real grafitti magnet. Hopefully they get on top of it quickly, like they do at Adelaide and Noarlunga.

I assume you got that sign off later on Norman? My fingers are still slightly sore from getting it off the poll too.

Also, it is STA, not SAR era.

Nope, it's still up for grabs. I might head down later though... if I can find the time.

And thanks for the correction ;)
