Speaking of political affiliations, I'm just as critical of the opposition when it chooses what's good for the Property Council over what's good for the public.

Well spotted Crawf. It has exactly 0 to do with the topic at hand - it was a 'rogue paste' - I put it down to operator error. Can't get good staff any more...

NICK HENDERSON, STATE POLITICAL REPORTER
June 06, 2008 10:42am
A NEW 2500-person entertainment venue will be built as part of a $50 million State Government plan to revamp the Entertainment Centre.
Premier Mike Rann announced the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, on Port Rd, will be revamped and a second venue for smaller concerts will be built at the site.
The redevelopment is predicted to draw at least 25 more live music events to South Australia.
"We want to make sure that we continue to attract the biggest performers and the best events in to the future for the enjoyment of South Australians,'' Mr Rann said.
Along with the new venue, the centre will receive a major external refurbishment but the interior will not be altered.
The centre received another major boost with yesterday's Budget announcement that the Glenelg tram line will be extend to the site.
Entertainment Centre chairman Bob Foord said the new venue would not take business away from the popular Governor Hindmarsh which is located opposite.

Re: Entertainment Centre Upgrade
At first I thought it looked pretty cool, but then I got worried that it might begin to look like the Hyatt! :S
#Proposed : Entertainment Centre Upgrade
Guess it's okay to post this now. Thanks to Al for the renders + siteplan.

Re: #Proposal : Entertainment Centre Upgrade
Looks good! Will be good to see the 'Aircraft Hangar' given a bit of a facelift!
Hopefully they find some money in the next budget to give the interior a bit of a facelift too!
Also, where does the new Tram stop fit into the design? Is it in the middle of Port Road?

Re: #Proposal : Entertainment Centre Upgrade
The 2500 venue is a real win for live music in Adelaide, too often do we have bands by pass us because there really isn't a sufficient venue with a capacity between Thebby and the Ent Cent. I believe Thebby is about around 2000, but it's nice to have a slightly larger, but not cavernous venue
This is a step in the right direction, but what would be good as well would be to see some venues with slightly less than Thebby just because we really lack in those mid sized venues. Fowlers is a good example.

Re: #Proposal : Entertainment Centre Upgrade
The Entertainment Centre is another venue I think should be situated right in the city, but I guess that subject has been discussed at length in the stadium discussions so I won't dwell on it here. At least this is close to the city.
Having said that, if this is to stay where it is this is a fantastic development. I only ask one thing, though. Can they change the name of it? Adelaide Entertainment Centre is just so generic and bland it hurts.

I Love it, It is a desighn that will not date for a while and would entice many bands etc to make to way to Adelaide.
