i hope the 2500 venue is a venue thats permanately set out like a theatre (i.e. festival theatre, kodak theatre, the opera house) if it is it would have a bigger capacity than opera house!
Re: #Proposal : Entertainment Centre Upgrade $50m
I doubt it... that's what the Festival Theatre is for. I think this will be something more unique, or maybe a venue for larger local gigs.

THE planned $50 million extensions to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre have been classified as "high-risk" by the State Government but it will push ahead with the project.
It blames rising steel costs, the complex design and the tight project deadline for the assessment.
The high-risk assessment is revealed in a Government submission on the project to Parliament's Public Works Committee.
A copy of the submission has been obtained by The Advertiser.
The committee, which has to examine all Government projects costing more than $4 million, is expected to take evidence tomorrow.
Premier Mike Rann announced the $50 million revamp in June. It includes a new 2500-person venue for smaller concerts, a large glass dome at the entrance and expanded patron service areas.
The Government's new 13-page submission says a detailed assessment of risk issues applicable to the project has been undertaken.
"The assessment indicates that the project is a high-risk project," it says. "Cabinet has approved this project and referral of this submission to the Public Works Committee.
"The AEC building is in need of reinvestment if Adelaide is to remain a significant player on the national touring scene.
"Without reinvestment, SA will experience an increase in the number of concerts and events bypassing Adelaide."

i really think they should put this one on hold and do a comprehensive review of all sports and entertainment facilities throughout the city.
i'm not convinced spending $55 million on the entertainment centre right now is a wise investment with a big economic slowdown looming. i know this article is The Advertiser, but on the surface it would seem like a high risk project to me also.
flyovers will continue to happen regardless - its not the facility that is preventing acts from touring here, but the public for not buying tickets quickly enough.

At least we get to see NIN at the Soundwave festival. (Not really relevant, but exciting nonetheless.)

The plans have been approved and this will go ahead. Due for completion in early 2010. Hansen & Yunken are the developers.

No surprises there. All will be done just before the next election and to coincide with the opening of the tram extension. Amazing how quickly things can happen with an election loomingNorman wrote:The plans have been approved and this will go ahead. Due for completion in early 2010. Hansen & Yunken are the developers.
