The guys here are finally working like monkeys on crack, they are blasting along! Went passed on the tram several times (H class, self explanatory!) and they have already got the next row of steel columns back from King William Street up and going with a few crossmembers between the two rows already going in. Really looking forward to the blue brick being completed.

Yeap. This pic I posted yesterday shows the beams attached to the columns. These beams appear temporary though to stabilise the larger 5 level high columns. It will be interesting to see how this site progresses next. Once some permanent beams and floors start to go in this one will really stand out.

I was on the H today, to City South to look at that site & the others nearby. It already dominates, just with 5 level columns.

Thanks Ben!This will certainly make a big impact to the southern skyline, especially if it's blue glass.

Love than view down KWS Ben.

BTW - if anyone remembers the old Repco bldg, it was 4 floors and made a solid impact in the area at that level. This is only 5 now, poles at that, and is already loking potentially imposing.

Does anyone know if the ground floor will all be tenancies, a mix of offices and tenancies or just a couple of available outlets for shops? Would be good to see the whole stretch as retail outlets.

Do you know it's funny, I cannot for the life of me remember the Repco building. That's how much it must have impacted on me. The development down this end of the city is going to do wonders for the city skyline overall, I can't wait to see high rises down the whole of King William St. Does anyone have any pictures of the old Repco building?

I just found this picture of it on Cr Wilkinson's site. Intersting to see his page of demolitions (http://www.sandywilkinson.com.au/demolitions.html) and how against development he is. Unfortunate really. While I agree with some. The old RAA building (COHS now) and the criterion hotel had no merit whatsoever and what is replacing those buildings far greater contributes to the city then those buildings ever did. Anyway:

From Cr Wilkinson's website:
While cities like Sydney and Melbourne are successfully converting warehouse buildings into funky, popular warehouse apartments, we in Adelaide have witnessed the demolition of the most significant Warehouse building in Adelaide, the Repco Warehouse building in King William Street. Likewise Southcotts, in Gilles Street, and the former ANZ Office furniture warehouse in Waymouth Street are other examples of lost opportunity.
I don't believe a 4 level warehouse/factory holds any significance to Adelaide's main CBD street, although if done properly it could have looked nice with a glass tower on top but unfortunately council imposed height restrictions have caused that opportunity impossible and led to the demolition of this site.

They were going to convert the old Repco building to apartments, in Cr Wilkinson's photo, you can actually see the billboard advertising the development, this must be going back 4-5 years ? I'm not sure what happened, but i'm not really sad about it ...

Although, existing structures are always good to use for sustainability reasons, (reducing the embodied energy it takes to build an entire new building).

Thanks Ben,

To give an idea of the final height from this perpsective, the building should block out the Law courts in the photo.

Sure is. Only temporary though. The main tower crane will be installed after the basement levels are complete in a few months.

Thanks for the pic Ben and I completely agree, nothing has been lost with the demolishing of that building particularly with what's replacing it.

The renders for this project look great. Let's hope the final outcome is close to this...

Such an important addition to the skyline at this end of KWS and on the eastern side to help balance out Hills & co.
