I would certainly not support the demolition of Marion Shopping Centre. It is already a suburban hub as it is, providing services, department stores and loads of specialty shops, as well as cafes, bars, cinemas and eateries. It's reputation and status in the sothern community is pretty much irreplacable. Maybe you should live down here, the drawing power of Marion Shopping Centre is almost, if not better, than that of the city. And if you fear Dead Malls, that won't happen here in Australia as long as Wal-Mart keeps its nose out of Australia.

And I can tell you now, almost 1/3 of shoppers at Marion already use PT, with numerous routes travelling from all over the south, including Noarlunga.

Is a new line running down Port Rd, or are they converting the existing Outer Harbour line?

It seems that with the tram line to the Entertainment Centre that a whole new tram line will run down Port Rd??

The tramline will soon be extended so far as the entertainment centre. Then its basically going to cut across to the rail line from there.

Agreed. Ol' Uncle Billy-Bob should move his cattle farm into Victoria Square so he can catch the tram to work on the farm.

I'll start by saying that I'm all for the expansion of the tram/rail network and I would love to see trams/trains running through every Adelaide suburb. However, I don't understand why a tram along Port Rd to Semaphore is top of the list. It’s funny to see the Lib leader also thinks this (im not a lib). Port Adelaide already has a train line running to it (close to Port rd) that many other suburbs would love to have. Now Port is getting a 2nd line. It’s the equivalent of running a train line down to Glenelg, so Glenelg is serviced by two rails systems.

With what is going on at the Port I don’t think a tram is needed to spur development along Port road, that will happen with or without a tram. Anzac Hwy (Adelaide’s nicest boulevard) flourishes without a tram as it connects two hotspots (City and Glenelg). Port Rd will do the same, with or without a Tram.

Looking at Adelaide rail map, there are many areas I would put ahead of a 2nd rail/tram link to the Port. Off the top of my head: Along to Magill or Norwood, down to Henley beach or west beach, and other suburbs down south and up north.

You don't seem to understand the Government's proposal. Port Road isn't getting a tram line all the way to Semaphore, the tram line is only running along Port Road to Hindmarsh, before it enters the existing Outer Harbor Line rail corridor. What are you complaining about then?

What you are missing is the fact that our train system needs to be electrified anyway. Add that in and your point no longer makes sense.

The governments plans are to run dual voltage trams down the train line till it gets to Port Adelaide
then run through the actual port center and to semaphore and likewise west lakes. So in essence these
are not completely new lines but an extension of the existing rail line with tram line additions for
the dual voltage trams... Their will also be that slight detour for the daul voltage tram to the
entertainment centre before it connects up to the existing train line.

Same approach would be eventually good for the tonsley line up to the Flinders Medical Centre and University...

Oops I was mistaken. In conversations I've had, I was under the impression it would go all the way down port rd, which would be silly.

Anyone know just where the tramline will re-enter the streets at Pt Adelaide. I am assuming at the southern end of the main thoroughfare near the rail overpass. Will it go up Causeway rd and then Semaphore Rd?

Sighs. The stupid bleeping Government still has no bleeping idea.

4 extra trams to service an extension twice as long as the previous? If anything, capacity will be further strained! The solution is so bleeping simple, which is to install the 4th section onto the entire fleet of Flexitys. That will improve the capacity by about 20-25% and has absolutely no impact on level crossing restrictions, etc. which appears to be the arguement that the Government is using against purchasing more trams.
