Well they managed to get that small area of concrete done before those showers last night.

So approx a 3rd of the basement concrete has been laid. I am not sure how much more steelwork they can do along the King William Street frontage without protective hoardings being put up along King William Street. Maybe more steelwork within the site instead for now.

Benno,

Would you be able at some stage to wander on over and ask one of the blokes on site if they're using cranes and if so when they are arriving?

Thaaaaaaaaanks mate!

Cheers bud,

That's how I usually find out my info and scoops, asking workers on site.

I really do like how this is coming together now. Finally, we may see this building finished after all.

Looks like they've added more columns on top of the existing lot that were placed about a week ago. Quite a clever technique of constructing the building, why assume the cost of hiring a crane when you can build it without one! Hopefully they add lateral support soon otherwise I would hate to see what a strong wind load could possibly do to one of those towering columns.

So this might give us an insight into why this project is taking so long. The construction company is Delnote Constructions. Their website has NOT been updated since February 2002, however most of the information actually predates this century. If that doesn't scream unprofessional, I don't know what does.

There is even reference to them working on a project for western mining who got bought out by BHP 3 years ago!

So am I to believe that the columns could be well over 5 floors high? Trusses/diagonals needed V soon to handle instability at such a great height one would think. V.unusual technique. Impressed with the speed now :D

They would have been designed to stand in that way... I would assume a N1 wind classification for this area... a quick check, structures 101 assumes a 1 in 25/50 yr wind load worst case would be more than sufficent
