It was lifting pallets onto the Origin building when I was there yesterday - possibly aircon stuff.

I was in Victoria Square last night and saw that both the Reserve Bank Building and the MLC Building have now been floodlit. For many years I have wanted these 2 important heritage high-rises to be flood-lit at night, and therefore this was a very pleasant surprise. By flood-lighting these building's not only is Victoria Square made to appear more 'alive' at night, but it helps frame the square at night.

Now if only the ACC would flood-light the Town Hall Tower....

Exciting news for Adelaide as we become the first home of the Royal Institute outside of the Uk

Stock exchange building trades roles
Article from: The Advertiser

CLARE PEDDIE, SCIENCE REPORTER

June 23, 2008 12:30am

FOR more than 100 years it was a place of monetary exchange, now a historic inner-city building will be the venue to exchange scientific ideas.

Work has begun to transform the former Adelaide Stock Exchange into the home of the Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus).

The RiAus venue on Exchange Place will be the first international satellite of the Royal Institution of Great Britain (RiGB) – the flagship of science communication in the UK for more than 200 years.

RiAus leaders expect the establishment in Adelaide to open early next year. Mathematician and academic Professor Gavin Brown will be executive director. He is returning to Adelaide after 12 years as vice-chancellor of the University of Sydney.

Professor Brown said it was a great opportunity "to do something national from Adelaide". He said he wanted to see a more informed and engaged approach to science in the community. "I'm absolutely sure people want that and I am also very sure it makes for much better decision-making, it allows people to be part of (science)."

On Thursday, Baroness Professor Susan Greenfield and Premier Mike Rann will celebrate the transformation of the old building. There will also be a fundraising auction of memorabilia, including squares of the former stock exchange's "bull and bear" carpet.

For information contact Marilyn Arnold at the Australian Science Media Centre on 8207 7415 or [email protected]

Where is the stock exchange building. Is it near Grenfell Centre?

Yes, in Exchange Place, between the Telstra building & Grenfell Centre - I wondered why there was a site fence around it.

It's a small red brick building tucked away directly behind Grenfell Centre as you walk down the laneway beside it from Grenfell Street. It's survived two fires since it was constructed over a century ago, and most of the building is still the original.

One of the gems of Adelaide this old building is. I pass it nearly every day walking to work and have often tried to imagine a use for it but never really could come up with something appropriate. A research/educational facility is just about the perfect use for it I reckon.

Yes its sandwiched between the Grenfell Centre and the Telstra Building. This image shows the building. Thanks to DEWHA for the image: (taken in 1984 when construction of the Telstra Building was starting)

Ah great, I love that little building, mostly for its turret and the effect it has on the laneways around it.

It appears to be at the rear of the two office blocks constructed for Norwich Union about 30 years ago, opposite the W&CH.

I rode past Morphett St on Sunday, and my eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw this new restaurant. What a great refurbishment of this building. Looks expensive though. Its on corner of Gouger and Morphett Sts, I think it used to be a furniture shop once. Here's some pics from today.
