COM: Seaford Rail Extension | $291m | 5.5km
Re: Noarlunga Centre - Seaford railway extension report
It was. I recorded it, and wasn't very informative... just the usual media dribble about how old people want to have it. Not worth uploading.
Re: Noarlunga Centre - Seaford railway extension report
Confirmation on the extension.
Tram links for the city
Future tramline extensions will include loops through the city, Transport Minister Patrick Conlon has confirmed. In Budget estimatres hearings this week Mr Conlon said city-loop tramlines were "an inevitabliltiy because they add such value". Mr Conlon also confirmed an extension of the Noarlunga to Seaford would be built in the future. Onkaparinga Council has long been pushing for the extension but the Government says the move is not yet financially worthwhile.

So the ten year plan has been altered already?

Financially worthwhile? Since when has public transport made any money? Or do they mean they haven't got the money to build it? I say just do it and give those poor sods down south what they want. That's what public transport is all about.Tram links for the city

While PT is often subsidised, there is a point where throwing public money at a route that serves very little of the public is hard to justify.Ho Really wrote:Financially worthwhile? Re: Noarlunga Centre - Seaford railway extension report
mtone, its not that it wont serve many people, its unfeasible atm because of the standard of the Noarlunga line. The way they did the public project costings states that it will be feasible once the resleepering and electrification is complete. If the extension was opened next week I have no doubt that it would be heavily used

Inflows can also come from other forms of benefit, not just monetary. These include social benefit and environmental benefit.

$4 million study: Rail line planned for Flinders
AN extension of the Tonsley rail line to Flinders Medical Centre and a lengthening of the Noarlunga line over the Onkaparinga River will be explored by the State Government.
Transport Minister Patrick Conlon has just announced a $4 million feasibility study into the extensions.
The Government says an extension of the Tonsley line would ease parking pressures at FMC.
It has also previously been criticised for not including a Noarlunga line extension in its State Budget announcement of a major public transport upgrade.

I wan't expecting that Anything you want to say about that Norman?
Sadly, as usual, the Adelaide population can do nothing but complain about it. I realise that it is a report on the lines at the moment but all they can do is complain when there is atleast a look a getting something done.

Re: Noarlunga Centre - Seaford railway extension report
Yes, to the university. It is the medical centre that is being considered, and it is perfectly reachable (the only issue is with space).Shuz wrote:Flinders!? But I thought it was too steep...

Government looks at extending Noarlunga, Tonsley rail lines
AN extension of the Tonsley rail line to Flinders Medical Centre and a lengthening of the Noarlunga line over the Onkaparinga River will be explored by the State Government.
Transport Minister Patrick Conlon announced a $4 million feasibility study into the extensions, funded by the Federal Government.
Mr Colon said an extension of the Tonsley line would ease parking pressures at FMC.
The investigation of the Noarlunga line extension to Seaford is in response to criticism that it was not included in the State Government's $2 billion public transport vision in last month's State Budget.
The $4 million study will investigate:
PARK and ride facilities based around the Flinders Medical Centre;
SOLVING the problem of building a massive bridge to cross the Onkaparinga River which meets the rail corridor at one of its widest points;
STUDY the gradient separation of the national and local rail lines at the Torrens Junction near Brompton;
SOLVING traffic problems where rail lines meet roads at intersections near the city.
Kingston MP Amanda Rishworth said the study would help come up with solutions to Adelaide's traffic problems.
"Public transport is a vital component of getting cars off the road an moving freight more quickly," she said.
Minister for the South John Hill said the State Government had already committed $34 million to buy land for a rail corridor to Aldinga.

Well done, FMC really needs better access. The interchange idea has been thrown around on this forum many times. Now they need to turn the 'study' into actual action.
