Dubai is one huge architectural circus. This building is quite amazing:

The Dynamic Tower offers infinite design possibilities, as each floor rotates independently at different speeds, resulting in a unique and ever evolving shape that introduces a fourth dimension to architecture, Time.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Was just about to post this... what a stunning design and remarkable engineering.

How the hell is that possible. Does the lift rotate too?

I wouldn't think so. If you've got up any revolving restaurant lately (or KL Tower), you'll see the lifts and stairwell remain stationary while the rest of the floor moves.

I think I read elsewhere that the architect for this one was a "pipe dreamer" who lacked credibility...

My guess is the floors rotate around a core, which houses the lifts and all other services.

There is a brochure on the website for the building which has cross sections of the core, etc... should clear things up!

It is over the 2mb, trying to compress now but my pdf program is crapping itself... will post when I can

He probably is, but dont forget this is Dubai... they are constantly laughing in the face of possibility.

Look at the Burj Al Arab hotel... that was designed by a bunch of junior architects and built on an artificial island in the sea, where they never found bed-rock to secure the building.

So like the floorplates are like sort of detached from the core box to ensure their rotation, that being that if you got out of the lift on the 34th floor, there would be a circular break in the floor around the lift that allows for the building to rotate?

The plans for this building show that the core running the entire height of the building is round. Each floor is made up of prefabricated modules that are attached to the core, and these can rotate around the core. Rather interesting concept. I'd love to know how the plumbing and electrical services will serve the building, I am aware that flexible electrical cabling and pipes exist, but if the floors can rotate continuously in the same direction, it would be interesting to see how the services wouldn't tangle.

Honestly? I think it looks ridiculous. If it works then it's fairly impressive from an engineering perspective, but in the process of becoming a rotating engineering marvel it ends up looking like a pile of pizza boxes stacked on top of each other.

I'd be imagining that most of the time it'd look messy like that last picture... that is, if each apartment has it's own voice activated controls. Still, it's an interesting concept, and I would love to see it happen, to be honest. Even though it's strange.
