Nothing beats real sushi in Japan itself, I miss Japanese food. It absolutely tops any sushi here in Australia.

I knew a Japanese exchange student who was a bit homesick and not impressed by the quality of sushi here in Australia.

I took her to Wasai Japanese Kitchen at 15 Field Street (off Gouger Street). She loved it! Although I am not a big fan of sushi, she said that the sushi and sashimi was as good as back in Japan. So I recommend this place!

Um Sushi is one of the better sushi places in Adelaide in terms of variety IMO, they offer certain types of sushi you can't mind in many other places. My fav of the sushi places in Adelaide is Sushi Train on Gouger Street, they have a good variety, although they make their green tea a bit weak. In most sushi places in Japan, you could prepare green tea to your own liking (they had green tea powder and hot water at each seat).

A couple more from me.

Hawker's Corner on West Terrace not far to the north of Anzac Highway and South Terrace intersection is reasonably good. A mix of Indian, Malaysian, Chinese and Thai dishes are available at a reasonable price and the portions are half decent also. There is also a nice little Indian place on Hindley Street which is one of those basement resturaunts which is quite good also but the name escapes me at the moment.

Jeruselums in Hindley Street is AMAZING . (Lebanese resturaunt)
My parents have been married for 32 years & they went there for their first date (back when hindley street was majorly dodgy) and nothing has changed in the resteraunt. The food is lebanese food and man is it delish! You can BYO drinks (because they are muslim they dont sell alcohol) making it a cheaper night out with friends if ya wanna do dinner before a big night out. Rockin up with eskys has never been an issue.
The owner and his son basically run the place so dont be suprised if they are running around getting food out! It is fast paced and squishy but dont let that put you off. There is lots of laughter, noise and smiling faces. I recommend getting a the banquet they range from $20 - $26 (including free corkage) and they will fill your table with food - dont be surpised if you are stacking things up! There deserts are wicked too - nothing like Baklawa (they pronounce it differently) It is like you have stepped into a hustle bustle resturaunt from over seas. A hidden gem!

Also Russells Pizza in Willunga is by far the best experience I have had in South Australia. You pay $30 for a starter and pizza each or $35 which includes a yummy desert and it is well worth it. Set up in the main st of Willunga it already feels like you are in the country (about 60 minutes from the city). Basically it is a old house, when we first walked in we saw lots of outdoor seating, lots of open fires and lots of candles. It was almost like you stepped into someones backyard party, so immediatley you are drawn to the relaxed atmosphere. We sat under an old patio and cracked open some champers (as it is also BYO).
They do have seating inside but you have to book quick for those seats. We were served the most amazing starter of Dukkah, olive oil and turkish bread, Olives and the freshest roasted almonds with river murray sea salt - everything is locally grown and tasted amazing! Then the pizzas came out and they were gourmet, we had a turkish lamb pizza, margarita, seafood which had oysters kilpatrick on them! We were offered 3 pizzas for the 6 of us but then they asked if we were still hungry and bought out another pizza!! Then the dessert came out which was OK - it wasnt your typical chocolate mud cake - I think I had a lime tart which lacked something and was quite tangy...after a big meal and lots of drinks we soaked up the atmosphere including looking on to a wedding reception in an big old shed. Just remember to book in at least 3 -4 weeks ahead, they are only open over the weekend and you can only call them between 1-5 on Wed to Sat to book.

For a similar experience go to 'Melt' on King william Rd, Hyde Park. It had the same concept and amazing pizzas! It has a very cosmopoliton feel about it, very chic. I found the drinks were pricey but the chocolate pistacio pizza was to die for! They also serve up tapas followed by pizza and dessert for $35 & we had some really awesome tapas such as like corn frittatas, choirozo sasuage and potatoe salad, Anchovies on toast in parsley oil and Hummus! YUM!!

One of the most popular Chinese restaurant in the CBD. Highly expensive due to popularity, however, if you want to taste the real authentic upper class Chinese food, this is the one. Remember to book too, as it is usually full house Fri and Sat, and customers come in big groups. Interestingly, you get to see mighty expensive and rare giant vase, these giant vases are highly sort item for any Chinese family and it symbolises wealth and power. You could hide yourself in there, or if your children gets a bit too noisy, these are good to place them in.

Another traditional Chinese restaurant which serves excellent Yum Char delicacies, fresh live giant lobster are available for you to choose and witness. They literally catch the lobster, and bring it to your face and say "Is this okay with you? The price is $XXX/kg and how would you like it cook?" Their seafood dishes are highly recommended. The price are slightly above average but is still acceptable, the environments are nice with a little fish pond as you enter the restaurant; the service is good too, considering the lady manager/owner always smiles and dresses in the traditional Chinese Cheongsam every single day.

This is the newest Chinese restaurant to open in Adelaide recently. Rumours had that the owner/management of this restaurant comes one of the very popular Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. And we all know how serious the Chinese people in Melbourne operates their restaurant business especially with their service and food quality. This is no exceptions for Maple House too, the service is one of the best in town, their Yum Char (available on Fri, Sat and Sun) is also one of the best in Adelaide. The price? Oh Yes, one of the best in Adelaide as well, I was shocked when told of the total charge as it would have easily cost me double at other places, their standard is no match to the others, the environments are nice and spacious.

Yarr we went to The House of Chow last Thursday - I haven't been for ages. It's still very good. What I'd describe as "traditional Australian Chinese food.
I wouldn't say that they are expensive though. Not for a full service restaurant.

For a fairly authentic Chinese meal I would recommended:

Rice Chinese Restaurant (on Glen Osmond Road)

The food there is good and the prices are very reasonable. The service isn't the best but the food more than makes up for it

Starhouse Restaurant (on Gouger Street)

A fairly new restaurant which specialises in seafood dishes. It even has the "live seafood display" in tanks towards the back of the restaurant (look out for a massive crab in one of the tanks ) The food was good and the service was reasonable.

Noodle Kingdom (on Gouger Street and a couple of shops west of Starhouse)

Another new shop which specialises in; you've guessed it, noodles! Serves are slightly larger than what you would normally get (for Chinese noodle dishes) and if you're really adventurous, it has some interesting appetizers as well

I had a burger at the Goose Gourmet Burger down at Glenelg (Moseley Square) and I cannot stop raving about the place. I thouroughly recommend it. The beef was juicy and flavoursome, the bacon crispy and the cheese was melted perfectly. I have eaten burgers at many locations before and throughout Australia, and this place easily rates as amongst the best. The prices are really cheap too (for the quality).

Now I know the whole world is fighting obesity as an effect of the number of fast food restaurants like Maccas, but that aside, the Maccas at the end of Hindley St meets East Terrace is the best. Due to the high turnaround, the chips, nuggets are the best, they are freshly deep fried and is always crunchy. Not sure about the burgers though as they can get quite messy sometimes due to the pace.
