[COM] New Royal Adelaide Hospital | $2.1b
[COM] Re: #PRO: Marjorie Jackson Nelson Hospital | $1.7b
The Masterplan for the hospital is now out: http://www.mjnh.sa.gov.au/downloads/mjnh_masterplan.pdf
Includes lots of interesting renders and information. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Great find there mate. I have to say though, some of the diagrams look as if they were drawn in paint! Doing some further nit picking, one of the diagrams on page 49 states that the main interstate freight line passed the old Gaol is owned by Australian National even though they dissapeared nearly 11 years ago. Never the less, a great find.

Good Morning,
The link to the Master plan that Norman posted has some very interesting info in it.Suggest that those who are interested have a good look at it.
My main concern is will there be enough room for the required lines for the new SG operations?
Regards,

Why do you say that Brian? It's not as if they are going to be laying a new standard gauge line next to the current broad gauge ones. Instead, they are just going to move the rail in 6.5 inches on the current alignment.

If anyone is having trouble with the above pdf, try saving it to your hard drive first.
Having a quick look (and ignoring the standard political dross), the North Terrace upgrade on pages 28-29 looks interesting. The tram line is conspiciously absent.
There's a lot of information about the existing site, but disappointingly little information about site plans. There's a few renders, but nothing much new in that regard.
There's a transport analysis on page 52 that proposes a new layout for North and West Terraces. Again the tram line is conspicuously absent. They're proposing to totally reconfigure the North and West Terrace intersection, with an alternate entrance to the hospital via a 5th road in the intersection.
I like the sound of "Access to the Adelaide Railway Station near Morphett Street will be investigated" (page 54) A western entrance for the station would enhance the government's initiative to open up the west end.

With the new development for the Hospital, how many lines will they need to go South and North? Will it be 4 or more?
I can't remember how many platforms there are, is it 8 or 9.
What I am trying to say 9 doesn't go into 2 very well or have I got the wrong idea.
Regards,

The track and station layout is going to remain the same as it is now with 8 mainline tracks and a few MOW sidings to the northern end of the yard. All 9 platforms will be retained and hopefully upgraded with better lighting then at present.

How is this different to the one they posted back in April? I had a quick look and it looks identical.Norman wrote:The Masterplan for the hospital is now out: http://www.mjnh.sa.gov.au/downloads/mjnh_masterplan.pdf

I still think they shouldn't name the hospital after Marjorie Jackson-Nelson. Are we forgetting that she only became famous because of sport? YES I KNOW, she gave lots of money to charity, but quite frankly, if everyone had that kind of money, so would they!
How 'bout calling it the Howard Florey Hospital?
He's South Australian AND he won the Nobel Prize for PHYSIOLOGY AND MEDICINE!!!

I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back.

Nah, let's call it the Glynnis Nunn hospital, she's famous for sport too! and will probably need it if she ever comes across a bunch of boozed up Adelaide youth vacationing on the Gold Coast!adam73837 wrote:I still think they shouldn't name the hospital after Marjorie Jackson-Nelson. Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I still think it should be called Sir Cruise Hospital instead.

I think Royal Adelaide Hospital was fine. If it is going to be all conquering and world class, why not have our city in the title.
[COM] Re: #PRO: Marjorie Jackson Nelson Hospital | $1.7b
Maybe we should think in a more corporate sense.
The Best Hospital Precinct (BHP Hospital); the South Australian National Teaching or Sickness (SANTOS) hospital or maybe the Grand Major Hospital (GMH).
Maybe even the "Royal Adelaide New Neonatal" or the "Full Of Life Engaging Youth" hospital would be OK.

I do know for a fact, but I can't remember the reason why - but no new buildings are allowed to be titled "Royal".
I just hate the name still, I don't care if its something boring like Torrens Hospital or City West Hospital or Adelaide Hospital. At least give it a name which is relevant to its purpose and/or geographical position.
