Until Harvey and friends state that they are talking about a German ICE, I will continue to assume in my replies that they are referring to QR Citytrain's ICE sets.

The Gold Coast - Australia's centre for insipid, tacky & boring.

Good article from Adelaidenow....

THE Tour Down Under is a B-grade sporting event. The Australian International Horse Trials are second rate.
South Australia lost the Grand Prix so replaced it with Clipsal - B-grade then?
Netball is a second-rate sport.
Hang on, before you throw abuse at me they are definitely not my thoughts. Quite the contrary.
These are the typical arrogant, out-of-touch opinions of Acting Premier Kevin Foley. It has to be what he thinks considering he called the Commonwealth Games B-grade.
One second while I check on his sporting claims to give him some credibility for his judgment. ... Nope, nothing.
The Commonwealth Games are B-Grade?
Why, because they are not the Olympic Games?
Makes me wonder why Melbourne fought so hard for the 2006 version and other Australian cities are keen to play host.
The Tour de France is the pinnacle of cycling's road racing. So everything else is B-grade according to our acting leader's theories.
Let's dream for a moment that the 2010 Games had been awarded to Adelaide.
Now, given Jamaica is a Commonwealth nation, that would mean South Australia would get to see Usain Bolt - arguably the biggest name in sport at the moment - in action. Hey Mr Foley, I'll leave it to you to tell the world's fastest man the competition is just B-grade.
Are you going to tell the Australian swimming team not to bother with the Commonwealth Games because they are only B-grade?
The world's best netballers are from the Commonwealth. Surely they are offended at being referred to as B-grade.
What about the resurgence of those irritating Poms?
They gave notice in Beijing of what to expect in the future and their presence gives the Commonwealth Games anything but a B-grade appearance.
Don't for a moment think they are not already looking at India in two years and the opportunity to rub Australia's face in the dirt.
The English boasting has started, especially now it has claimed the mantle as the world's most powerful track cycling nation. England versus Australia in cycling - definitely not B-grade Mr Foley.
You know what is B-grade Mr Foley?
No, not your sporting opinions, the sports facilities in this state. Many are not just B-grade, but are actually a disgrace.
Another thing, Mr Foley, your government wants to name the new hospital after Marjorie Jackson-Nelson. You know, a winner of seven gold medals at those B-grade Commonwealth Games.

Looks like quite a good plan and it would be far, FAR better than having a State Aquatic Centre at Marion, an outdated AAMI Stadium at West Lakes and a race course at Cheltenham to be used for an event like the Commonwealth Games.rogue wrote:The Advertiser has decided to have a crack at designing Adelaide's requirements to host the CG's.

I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back.

A B-Grade newspaper and B-grade sporting facilities for what seems to be becoming a B-Grade City.crawf wrote:The Advertiser is a B-grade newspaper

The Advertisers plans are quite good, but unfortunately it includes a stadium that isn't truly multipurpose. Adelaide has a poor history of building specialised infrastructure scattered around the suburbs - when it should be one multipurpose venue centrally located. AFL, A League, 20/20 Cricket and Concerts all at the one venue - it works so well at Telsta Dome.
Re: Poll pledge: Libs would bid for 2018 Commonwealth Games
Actually that stadium "vision" would be a great multipurpose venue.
The athletics/running track could be removed and grass laid, as they did at the MCG after the Commonwealth Games.
It could then be used for AFL.
With the retractable seats, it would allow A League and Rugby(Rugby 7's??) to be played there.

If we had lots of AFL teams based here then I might agree with you. But we don't, and we already have a great cricket venue within walking distance of the City, so I think it would be better to specialize. An oblong stadium will always be better than an oval one for soccer and rugby because the crowd will be closer to the action. A new stadium should be designed for something we can't already do well, rather than duplicating an existing function.Crisp wrote:The Advertisers plans are quite good, but unfortunately it includes a stadium that isn't truly multipurpose.
