These are the typical arrogant, out-of-touch opinions of Acting Premier Kevin Foley. It has to be what he thinks considering he called the Commonwealth Games B-grade.

One second while I check on his sporting claims to give him some credibility for his judgment. ... Nope, nothing.

Makes me wonder why Melbourne fought so hard for the 2006 version and other Australian cities are keen to play host.

The Tour de France is the pinnacle of cycling's road racing. So everything else is B-grade according to our acting leader's theories.

Let's dream for a moment that the 2010 Games had been awarded to Adelaide.

Now, given Jamaica is a Commonwealth nation, that would mean South Australia would get to see Usain Bolt - arguably the biggest name in sport at the moment - in action. Hey Mr Foley, I'll leave it to you to tell the world's fastest man the competition is just B-grade.

No, not your sporting opinions, the sports facilities in this state. Many are not just B-grade, but are actually a disgrace.

Another thing, Mr Foley, your government wants to name the new hospital after Marjorie Jackson-Nelson. You know, a winner of seven gold medals at those B-grade Commonwealth Games.

Looks like quite a good plan and it would be far, FAR better than having a State Aquatic Centre at Marion, an outdated AAMI Stadium at West Lakes and a race course at Cheltenham to be used for an event like the Commonwealth Games.

The Advertisers plans are quite good, but unfortunately it includes a stadium that isn't truly multipurpose. Adelaide has a poor history of building specialised infrastructure scattered around the suburbs - when it should be one multipurpose venue centrally located. AFL, A League, 20/20 Cricket and Concerts all at the one venue - it works so well at Telsta Dome.

Actually that stadium "vision" would be a great multipurpose venue.
The athletics/running track could be removed and grass laid, as they did at the MCG after the Commonwealth Games.
It could then be used for AFL.
With the retractable seats, it would allow A League and Rugby(Rugby 7's??) to be played there.

If we had lots of AFL teams based here then I might agree with you. But we don't, and we already have a great cricket venue within walking distance of the City, so I think it would be better to specialize. An oblong stadium will always be better than an oval one for soccer and rugby because the crowd will be closer to the action. A new stadium should be designed for something we can't already do well, rather than duplicating an existing function.
