[COM] 377-379 King William Street | 50m | 16lvls | Apartments
[COM] Re: #PRO: 379 King William St | 40m | 11lvls | Residential
The current building on site, the former Royal Caledonian Society of SA building. Thought it may be good for future historical reference.
[COM] Re: #PRO: 379 King William St | 40m | 11lvls | Residential
Interesting to note that this was very close to being deferred as one councilor wanted the developers to incorporate the existing buildings facade.
It was then –
Moved by Councillor WILKINSON -
That the development, the subject of the application from David Dawson Architects to
demolish the existing building and construct an 11 level mixed use building with
ground floor and mezzanine levels used for cafe and car parking, 7 levels of office
space and 2 levels of residential (2 apartments) at 377-379 King William Street,
Adelaide SA 5000 as shown on plans designated DA/875/2007 be DEFERRED to
enable the applicant to consider the incorporation of the front portion of the existing
building.
The motion lapsed for want of a seconder.
Discussion continued.
It was then -
Moved by Mr GRIEVE,
Seconded by Prof. GAARDBOE -

1. Is not seriously at variance with the provisions of the Development Plan; and
2. Be GRANTED Development Plan Consent

Would've been nice to keep the facade. Looks kinda nice.

Yeah a fair enough call by Clr Wilkinson, the facade has a certainly quality to it..

I find the facade ordinary. The design is pretty dull, especially the windows and there's nothing outstanding about the stonework. It's just a tired old building.

I haven't seen any plans for this proposal, but I can assume this building will have only the southern side (the one facing the small shop) with no (or limited) windows. The rear of the building (western facade) faces onto an open area used as a car park and should have windows and even balconies.
Cheers

Yes the western, northern and eastern elevations are almost all glass according to the plans.

There appears to be some action on this site this morning.
Not much mind you but the door is open and someone is banging away upstairs and they have removed some of the boarding on the upper windows.

Anyone know of further developments with this one - seems very slow, but would be great to have a taller bldg that side of KWS Sth.

Does anyone know who the builder "Colangelo" is and their address? Their sign can be seen on the front of the building.

This one is currently being demolished. Not sure if you can see it from my dodgy phone camera zoom in job.
