ADELAIDE will spring to life with a string of outdoor music festivals in coming months.

Parklife, the first of five outdoor events in the parklands, starts next Saturday.

Festival marketing manager Natalie Giraldo describes Parklife's Adelaide launch last year as one of the tour's best and she wants to host more events in the city.

"We are actually looking at doing more and more events in Adelaide because it is such a growing market," Ms Giraldo said. "The atmosphere in Adelaide was really good and the crowd was so well behaved compared with other cities.

"We were really happy about the numbers that turned up on the day. It was actually one of the best Parklife's out of the whole tour."

Despite Adelaide's history of slow ticket sales for touring acts, a new breed of younger promoters is getting involved in events.

Blake Gilchrist, marketing and events manager for HQ complex, who this year staged the Groove is in the Park Festival in Elder Park, believes the explosion of festivals may be in part because of an apparent change of policy by Adelaide City Council which seems to be more willing to play host to outdoor events in parks.

"The council is definitely a lot more receptive now than it used to be," he said.

"I remember approaching it five or six years ago with similar concepts but it wasn't interested at all.

"It actually has an events section there now that is dedicated to helping these types of events happen.

"Somewhere along the line the council really liked the idea of injecting youth and vibrancy into Adelaide which I think for a long time it didn't."

Following Groove is in the Park's success, Mr Gilchrist will host the event again on New Year's Day in Rymill Park, on the city fringe.

He says the string of festivals already announced is indicative of the growing market in Adelaide.

"These festivals are incredibly popular on the east coast and a lot of youth and young adults were heading over to these parties because we couldn't cater for them, but now we can," he said.

from little things big things grow - this is good news :-)
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Parklife can kiss my arse.

If Adelaide was one of the best, then why do they continually drop the big names from our bill in favour of all other cities. Last year it was live sets by Justice, this year it's Goldfrapp altogether.

If we're not getting flown over on the way to Perth, we're missing out on the complete package anyway.

The reference to the ACC being helpful for festivals is good news though.
