Sounds interesting. Which side is that? North of the rail line and west of Elder Smith Drive? Has Mawson Lakes reached the size to support a cinema, especially so far away from the current town centre?King_Kong wrote:4. I think it could, i think people from surrounding areas would use it too, as theres no cinema in the area, i live at Montague Farm and i would defiantly rather use a cinema at Mawson Lakes than go to TTPAtD wrote:Sounds interesting. The proposed Cinema will be located behind the city to Gawler side of the railway lines- as you come from mawson onto elder smith part of Mawson Central west.
Also new greek kabab cafe opening on ground floor of the broadview appts next to woolies.
New shopping centre is still in planning stage for vacant lot next to woolies- approx 4 story 2 levels of shopping, 1 level carpark and 1 level office space.
DFO (direct factory outlet) along main north road, parafield airport as part of the $400mil new shopping and business precinct.
DFO's are located in the eastern states and are more up market outlet stores then you get at harbour town.
Proposed extention to the mawson lakes golf club to 18 holes.
New sports centre Gym as part of Uni SA to be developed next to Escarda along main street.
***BIG NEWS*** DELFIN and Ridley ptl ltd (owners of the salt lakes at dry creek) are in neg. to move salt lakes further north and redevelop land as mixed use commercial/retail/residential housing upto 20000 people.(bigger version of M/lakes

Its not Urban Sprawl at all. Urban sprawl in Adelaide is more housing to the Northern or Southern fringes. Thats actually a huge reservation of land north of the Port River Expressway. Even I believe that 20,000 homes is a conservative estimate - assuming that the site boundary is Little Para River - I would say that'd be more accomodating for at least 40,000 homes or at least 100-120 thousand people. This would be a good development hotspot to attract new migrants, particularly the 50,000 Filipinos - could establish a town centre that reminesces their homeland?

Its not that simple Shuz. Roads, infrastructure, commercial properties, parks, lakes etc all take up space and therefore lessens the amount of residential property allotments. Its all about balance in a development like this, not jamming in as many people as you can. There is plenty of vacant land in the north and north west, from parafield gardens, paralowie and burton to the piece of land we use to dirt bikes along the port river expressway before eastern parade port adelaide. urban sprawl as mentioned is extending the metro boundries out past gawler and aldinga. there is a lot of land in inner metro that can be reclaimed- again mentioning the salt lakes, hobby farms in populas suburbs, old industrial estates that can be located further out.
The city of salisbury is even looking to take a leaf out of its own book with mawson lakes and looking to redevelop salisbury in a similar fashion. john st salisbury which is now only know for its banks, mortage brokers and quick cash companies is looking to revitalise john st by giving it a face lift, bringing in more cafes and resturants and building residential aptms above.
this is what Adelaide needs. there are only 3 major suburbs in adelaide that offer retail/residential mixed dwellings. Adelaide CBD, glenelg and Mawson Lakes. mid to high density would assist people to get into the property market and at lower cost than traditional dwellings without moving to the outskirts of the metro slowing urban sprawl and centralising populations.
centralised populations produce better economics, money is spent locally, less pollution from excessive vehicle use and hopefully a fitter society (walking more) as amenities are centrally located.
I find this at Mawson Lakes already- everything being so central means I hardly take my car when I need to go places. a bustling metropolis or self sufficient community offereing all amenities- this is a suburb, this is a community. This is Adelaides second CBD.

And just to note, the housing shortage is as much to do with a shortage of qualified tradesmen (they're all in the mines), high cost of construction materials (it's all off to China) and under-utilisation of existing urban space (ie sprawl).
