Re: # U/C - Flinders University - 2 x 5 levels; $45 million
Awesome work Norman! I reckon I might have to make a bit of a detour when I go to Marion next time, that view from the carpark looks like it would be something special.

It would... if there was something to photograph!
But once I get my new camera I will be able to make some better skyline shots

I know it's a bit of a small drop in the ocean, but a $3.3 million expansion of the Flinders University Sports Centre was given final approval this week. If there are not further delays construction is expected to be completed by February 09.

This is actually part of the new $3 million extension to the Fitness & Sports Centre. It was originally scheduled to open in September, but seeing as though the Board only approved it about 2 months ago, I think they're looking to finish in February of next year.Norman wrote:Health Sciences Building from yesterday:

Oh, I didn't realise. I thought it looked out of place...
Any plans/info on that one?

Hindmarsh ahve updated their website again revealing some information about the extensions to the Flinders University Gym:
The Flinders University Sports Centre Extension is a 3 storey extension to the existing centre.
It comprises a weights room, cardio room, RPM room and group fitness area as well as refurbishment of the existing internal amenities.
The new building connects to the existing sports centre via enclosed linkways on Levels 2 and 3. The steel frame building is clad with Brighton Lite precast panels to the western facade and has lightweight concrete floors to assist the structure with the live loads imposed by the gymnasium activities.

As Hindmarsh also built the new 5 level buildings at Flinders here is some information regarding these buildings from their website:
More information: http://www.hindmarshgroup.com/images/pr ... Health.pdfThe project consists of two five-storey buildings for the faculty of Health Sciences and the School of Education. The university’s expected growth over the next 5 to 10 years demanded increased learning, teaching and research facilities. The buildings are modern, flexible and efficient and enable enhanced student and teacher access around the campus.

Yeah, that last building is the Education building, where I am currently based...I must say, I'm not sure that I really like it all that much. The lecture theatre is pretty shoddy at present, and I would hate to be a disabled person needing to use the building, because it is my impression that to get from the first to the fifth floor, you have to take three different elevators. Nice looking building, not very good functionality.

A few of my mates who are studying in the new Health Sciences building are pretty negative towards it. Compared to the sturt campus, there are no real places for people to sit, and supposedly some of the tables in the lecture theatres are already broken..
The other building next to the gym is taking it's sweet time getting built, it's been more noticeable then the other building because of the workers taking up a good share of the limited parks. But maybe the longer construction time will result in a better quality building.
Either way, I like both buildings and it's good to see the uni growing .
It's not really worth a mention but there is a building being constructed near the Mchuges cafe in the science campus as well, not as large in size compared to the other two, but I like the look of it.
