This is in the early stages- as proposed northern corridor needs to be re-examined. at this stage no news if it will again be called mawson lakes or something else. The land avail is almost double the size allocated to delfin for the original mawson lakes development- and stretches from corner of salis. hwy and port wakefield road to behind the exit to hanson road.
Thanks for the updates King_Kong, interesting times ahead. Though I thought it was reported in the media months ago that Harbourtown was going there?. I hope your right though, it would be good to have a DFO in Adelaide plus it will give Harbourtown competition and kill of the small number of factory outlets along Glen Osmond Road completely :P

Good to hear, I'm still surprised that Salisbury wasn't included in the State Governments 30 year TOD vision for Adelaide.
this is what Adelaide needs. there are only 3 major suburbs in adelaide that offer retail/residential mixed dwellings. Adelaide CBD, glenelg and Mawson Lakes.
And West Lakes and Port Adelaide

I don't think any of the existing apartment buildings there are mixed use.

I heard that Coles was looking to tennant the Promenade Stage 2...

MAWSON Lakes residents will have ready access to general and maternity health services and plastic surgery as part of a proposed $65 million private hospital.

Developer Macq3 has applied to Salisbury Council to build a four-storey, 78-bed hospital in Mawson Lakes' business district.

Director Kon Andrews said support from Mawson Lakes developer Delfin Lend Lease and Salisbury Council had given the company confidence for the likely approval of the development.

"The way we have viewed it, the northern region is the fastest-growing region of Adelaide and the new infrastructure in place is very encouraging," Mr Andrews said.

"Also, the demographics of the region support the proposal, as does the uptake of private health insurance."

Mr Andrews said the company had been in discussions with several national health providers to run the hospital, but would require State Government approval to open.

State Health Minister John Hill said the Government had already had preliminary discussions with the company.

Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge said the hospital, if approved by the council's development assessment panel, would offer a convenient alternative to the Lyell McEwin Hospital, which opened in 1959.

"It might be better if it was a public hospital, but all the services of doctors and specialists will be there, which will make it better for people in the area," she said.

"I would like to think they would put in an after-hours or emergency section, but I guess we will wait and see."

State president of the Australian Private Hospitals Association Stephen Walker said the facility might face significant financial challenges.

"It is a very difficult environment for private hospitals in SA from a financial perspective," he said.

"There is very little margin, so it's very difficult."

Macq3 intends the hospital to specialise in general, orthopedic, gastrointestinal and plastic surgery, and have a focus on obstetrics, gynaecology and rehabilitation.

Its 78 beds will include six neonatal special care cots.

Some true forward thinking - excellent! Beat the problem as it is expected to develop before it arrives.Nice looking design too!

No offence intended at all here Shuz, just an educated observation. However, what you are describing above would basically be to purpose build a ghetto for Filipinos. Take it from someone who has seen these ghettos in other countries, it's a very, very bad idea! You would end up with an alienated Filipino community that everyone else who is not filipino would also feel alienated from. These race-specific developments almost always lead to very high levels of crime and unemployment, and a whole host of other social problems.

As someone who has been to the Philippines several times and knows it well, I can also tell you the last thing anyone here (including Filipinos) would want is a town centre that resembles the Philippines in any way whatsoever!

I'm sure you're intentions were good in suggesting it, but the built up areas of the Philippines are a filthy polluted dump, and the town centres are disgusting. Most Filipinos who emigrate here would be only too glad to get away from that (not withstanding they would of course miss their families, I'm only talking about the place not the people).

I thought the Phillipines (moreso Manila, the capital) was a relatively 'developed' city? Hence why I suggested the concept - and I would expect nothing less than standard new development housing pratice. No ghettos or anything, but a community where the Filipino influence is culturally strong - mirrored in public artworks, cuisine (cafes, restuarants) even scooter lanes or something like that, where they would feel a sense of cultural belonging in a modern environment.

Oh I see! Well in that case I agree. I thought you meant a Filipino style town centre, which would be terrible! However a nice modern well-designed town centre, with a bit of SE Asian influence as you said, would be a very nice idea.

wow Mawson Lakes needs more buildings like this, sure looks better than the crap going up on Garden Tce/Metro Pde

Mawson Lakes loses hospital

PLANS to build a $65 million private hospital at Mawson Lakes have been canned after developers failed to find an
operator for the hospital in the wake of the global financial crisis.

Salisbury Council approved plans in October to build a four-storey hospital in the central business precinct, facing
Elder Smith Rd.

However, developer Macq3 Projects director Kon Andrews told the News Review Messenger last week that while there
had been support from the medical community such as gynecologists and oncologists the hospital had been scrapped
