What are the Polities buildings? The one next to this development looks good but it needs work. Hopefully they won't get rid of another grand old building

I'm changing server to Windows Live SkyDrive as a trial because I want to get rid of my server. Let me know if you can or can't see the pics

Here's hoping this progresses as soon as possible. The emptiness is weird.

thanks for updated photos from everyone .. looking good .. I really like the look of these. Once we turn the Festival Theatre area into our little 'Fed Square' with permanent screens, stages, cafe's and eateries then this will be perfect for south australians and int'l students!!!!

Question... will the bottom of these be active street frontage? Would be a bit of a waste if it wasn't.
[COM] Re: #SWP: 140 North Tce | 59/53m | 20/18lvls | Student
I believe its compulsory to have active street frontages on all new buildings, or at least it should be.
Gallery at the Precinct is one such development I know that doesn't.

This development will have active street frontages. If memoery serves me correctly I think 5-6 retail tenancies are planned for the ground floor of the building spanning from North Terrace and Bank Street.
Regarding the Gallery. It is a bit of a grey area, in that its ground floor does not contain traditional retail tenancies as such, but the ground floor residential apartments are sold as 'home offices', so it would not surprise me if we saw a doctors or dentists surgery on the ground floor of the Gallery.

Fully agree - you dont end up facing big lengths of inactivity/walls in the CBD. They end up as psychological 'barriers' to further extending retail etc in that area and the whole region ends up 'dead'.Shuz wrote:I believe its compulsory to have active street frontages on all new buildings, or at least it should be.

Anyway, really looking forward to seeing this one develop - looks great in renders.

I was concerned that it may take a while for this one to start, however I walk to work past this everyday, and Ive noticed them in the last week start all the earth-moving. Well I hope thats what they're doing I'll have a closer look tomorrow when I get my bean bar wakeup

Did you actually see the excavator moving? It hasn't changed position in over a month.
A friend of mine who works at the Stamford said no one has been on site for ages, and half of the excavations have been completed. It looks like the site has been abandoned, I damn well hope not. It would be a blight on North terrace having a semi dug pit on such a prime site.

I wouldn't be too worried. Demolition only finished about a month ago.

I don't think this was ever posted on here, however the proposal to add an additional 2 levels to the south tower was granted planning approval by the ACC on August 5 of last year.
Furthermore this project is not exactly dead as the developers requested an extension to their Development Approval on Wednesday (March 4, 2009).

Good! The area would be a bad blight in a central location on a high profile steet if no bldgs were built. Originally this was supposed to start in April according to Shuz' database. Waiting to see what happens.
BTW - what is the story concerrning the rate of arrivals of o'seas student numbers coming to Adelaide compared to last year - anyone know? (this will have bearings on demand and possible construction as we all know).
