i'm on 3003 and it has had its windows replaced now. They have a black tint and look quite good. This must have been the carriage that they trialed it on. Nothing else has changed or been refurbished,so the internal glass dividers are still heavily vandalised.

THE Adelaide rail yards will move to sites north and south of the city to make way for the Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital, the State Government says. The Government will seek approval from the Public Works Committee for the move from North Tce to Dry Creek and Lonsdale.

The northern rail yard will be next to the Dry Creek railway station and the existing stabling facility at Lonsdale will be expanded. Transport Minister Patrick Conlon said the relocation would complement the Government's plans to revolutionise the state's public transport system. "We are going to be relocating quite an unattractive yard to new facilities north and south, and clear the site for the construction of the brand new world-class hospital," he said. "I think a hospital on this site will obviously be a far more attractive first viewpoint when you are entering the city. "Because we are rolling out $2 billion worth of new investment in rail, it means we can incorporate the needs of that new rolling stock into the facilities as we move them."

Construction at the Dry Creek site is expected to be complete in 2010, with Lonsdale finished in 2011. Health Minister John Hill said it was an important step towards the new hospital. "With remediation work soon to get under way on the site, plus the public consultation on what facilities should be in the new hospital, we are really making progress," he said.

Basically what will happen is the new depot will cover the former Northfield line triangle area just to the north of Dry Creek station as well as occupying the former Steamranger depot there. I imagine that the triangle there will be retained although modified for turning railcars (which does happen from time to time). However, I havn't seen any major plans as yet so I will have a look around the place for them. I do know that the tender for designing the new depot was let some months ago so things are starting to move on this.

Look at that lovely wide strip of land. My first thought - turn it in to a dual use freeway/railway corridor like in Perth, and it could be part of the north-south corridor.

The Nowergup train depot in Perth's northern suburbs has been designed to fit within the median of the Mitchell Freeway when it is extended to Clarkson. Looking at that photo above, there's plenty of room to do the same thing here.

Does anyone know what's going on at Semaphore Road between Military Road and Causeway Road?

The middle of the road has been ripped up and it appears there will no longer be two sections. I'm guessing it's all to do with the tram that's going to be going up Semaphore road. They're also starting to erect possible cable polls (or whatever they're called), but they could also be street lights.

Last time I was there, the overhead power lines were being under-grounded. I also noticed some missing (broken) curbing and the like.

I was there a few weeks ago, and they were installing heritage style lamp posts in that section. I doubt they are
doing anything for the tramline yet. Yesterday I noticed a cleared block at bus stop 6 on Port Rd opposite the
entertainment centre that would make a good connection for the tram to the Outer Harbor line, so it would be
a good idea to build on it quick & block that option. :)

The current work has nothing to do with the proposed tramline extension.
