Hindley Street Alley wrote:...im thinking they will not want any tall buildings to be built just to the north of it which could block out the sun... its actually a good spot for that considering only one low-level building behind, then the wide north terrace area beyond
I was thinking about maybe a 12-14 storey building similar in height to the Dame Roma Mitchell Building on the Strathmore Hotel site.
Cheers

Will really stand out in that part of Adelaide and attract attention. Great profile IMO. I am a little concerned about accessability however.
Any one know of effects on Nth Tce - traffic access, frontage, etc. Would love to see this one entering the CBD rom the north. Any apartments bldgs towards the north of it ? (Can't quite picture what is around it but I know there are a few along western Nth Tce towards the Bridge).

Skyliner go back to the preceding page and download the PDFs from the link suggested by Ben. They'll show you exactly its location, height and the surrounding hotels and apartments (including Spark in Hindley Street), etc.

Bit slow in getting back to the new renders.
The renders are amazing (from 3/7/08) - to add another superlative to the growing accolades. Hindley St frontage much better than first expected.
As some of you know I am a strong supporter of footpath cover - especially if used for Alfresco places.
Northern aspect V impressive - really fill up a hole in the skyline - much 'busier' impact. Even bettter at night if the top section was outlined in neons.
Like Omicron said earlier (I think it was him) a restuarant up in the top section would be great.
BTW - thanks for the help Ho Really.

Does anyone know when this one comes up before the council for approval? Very keen to see this one happen.

This should be going to the DAP before the end of the year.

Still viable/feasable it then appears - excellent! A top design - very prominent as well.

Thanks Ben. Any idea what the eastern facade will look like? I would say it'd have to be another blank wall of some form. Are the neighbouring buildings listed?

The neighbouring Princes Berkely Hotel is heritage listed.
And regarding your first question, the building's eastern façade will have windows and sufficient articulation to make it interesting.

Good to see, is this the building with the random "Arts SA" signage?

this hotel will make a big impact on the skyline in this part of the city, and it is actually something big and something unique...but as with most developments in this city i can see it being scaled back for one reason or another (financial crisis/ lack of demand etc), there is a high probability that it will be cut down to 15 levels or less and the steps effect will be replaced with something less interesting. If this one is built EXACTLY as it is designed in its renders then it will probably be a first for Adelaide, the people approving developments here seem to want to take away everything that makes a proposed building interesting
and if this development goes ahead with the student twin towers thing in front of the railway station, there is even more reason to convert Hindley street into a pedestrian mall

Outstanding! I hope this building makes it through to the construction stage unscathed. Let's not forget its unique approaches to water-saving and energy efficiency which deserve to come to fruition. For those playing at home:
