The "new" flight path would only be used for a few flights, not all of them.

I'm under the turning point on the current approach path. Cars on the local main road make more noise. Although they're still fairly high 10Km out.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

This is what my brother said to me months ago - before anyone said a thing. Caught me by surprise - till you remember he is a CFO of a big company based here in Adelaide. He gave no evidence, but gave the clue - as he did with Hills as well.

NUP! Cant see to mant people that would either considering this should be a premier area to live.
Brompton not a premier area to live? 5 minutes from North Adelaide & the CBD?
Try buy property there. I think you'll be surprised by the amount of people who are desperate to move to the area.

Yeah brompton's a pretty hot area, it was the top of my list when I went house hunting. Had to settle for the westwood area eventually.

All Im saying is that it doesnt seem like the best idea putting a flight path right over the top of Adelaides 1st major TOD. By the way, know it isnt the right forum but why cant the flight path for take offs just follow the same one for landings. Wouldn't this negate all the flight path issues? yes I do realise that there is a cost factor but surely this would pale into insugnificance compared to the beifits of developing the CBD.

One word: wind. The direction from which planes land and take off depends on the direction and velocity of the wind. It also isn't wise to have planes taking off in the direction from which planes are also landing, that isn't safe nor is it efficient.

Yeh I do know about the wind, thats why they sometimes come in from the ocean and sometimes from the city end. Having one east/west runway It would be entertaining to see planes take off and land in the same direction. I didnt really word it well but the flight path the planes use for landing doesnt interfear with the CBD at all when they're coming in to land from the east, when the planes are taking off to the east why do they divert over the city instead of following the same path until they have cleared the CBD air space? The airliness would probably kick up a stink if they're flying to Mel or Hobart but it wouldnt be a huge diversion.

Entertaining is probably the wrong word -- effin' dangerous is one that comes to mind. I live under the NE approach to the airport. During peak there's a flight coming in every 5 to 10 minutes. You couldn't get one flight down and then send another off in the same direction even without the prevailing wind issue.

Flights don't take off or land in the direction that they are heading to or coming from. Often a flight needs to make a large lazy circle all the way around the greater metro area before lining up with their approach. As I mentioned I live under the NE approach and often see flights coming in from the South do a 90 degree turn right above me before heading in for their approach to the runway -- an approach that begins roughly overhead Tea Tree Plaza.

My point is that the distance from the airport to where flights start to turn for the first leg of their journey is way way way WAY past the CBD. Such points are over the gulf and hills.

I was being a little sarcastic :)
My point is that the distance from the airport to where flights start to turn for the first leg of their journey is way way way WAY past the CBD. Such points are over the gulf and hills.
But surely they could start thier turn when they reach the easten parklands instead of direcly over the CBD.
The issue with airspace over the CBD is more to do with radar and other ATC support and navigation systems than the actual planes themselves.
This awnsers my question, just thinking of a simple solution. Too much to ask for? (awnser to this is probally yes)

I drove past the old Domestic Terminal at Adelaide Airport yesterday and most of it is now surrounded with temporary fencing. There is a McMahon Services site office setup next to the Alpa catering entrance and there are shipping containers behind the fence with 'Danger Demolition in Progress' signs on them.

I last heard that AAL were looking to turn the old DTB into a regional airline terminal but i'm trying to get some more information.

I have just had it confirmed that the old domestic terminal building will be demolished by March. Only the Northern wing which contains Alpha catering will remain.

Word is that the area is being turned into a carpark....

Car park? this could be to make way for the hotel in from of the new airport..
