Yeah
Surely it must be a stuff up by Ten news, I would of thought the project would be complete by May.

Following announcements of a 6pm opening on the media during the day, a number of interested onlookers gathered on the overpass from 5:45.garys_power wrote:South Rd/Anzac Highway's Gallipoli Underpass to open at last
TRAFFIC will start flowing through the Gallipoli Underpass - the section of South Rd running under Anzac Highway - tomorrow night.
TV news crews set up, their link antennas were raised ready to cross to the evening news services and then an orange vest came along bringing news of a one hour delay.
The reporters and some crews left, but locals should be aware that a cameramen from channels 2 & 7 remained on site.)
At 7:06 a lone cyclist made his dash and successfully negotiated the underpass, getting cheers and clapping from the crowd:
Around five minutes later the first vehicles passed through, and soon afterwards there was a good flow (albeit at 25/h):
It looks like the bitumen final layer is yet to be applied on the underpass. There are still manholes standing about 50mm proud of the surface.

So are any plans yet for a Pedestrain crossing yet on south road inbetween Cross road and the tram line?
Surely that would be rather cheap?

This is in reference to the one that already exists in that location, yes?Cruise wrote:So are any plans yet for a Pedestrain crossing yet on south road inbetween Cross road and the tram line?

I Went through last night in a taxi and it was chaos. Took about 20 minutes to get from one end of the underpass to the other. Down to 1 lane in either direction.
[COM] Re: South Road Upgrade
I went through it twice, at 9pm and at 3am, I thought it was great. The lighting effects don't look too shabby either.

I could see this one coming. 25km/h, one lane each way, busiest road in Adelaide... just asking for trouble....
Gallipoli Underpass traffic backed up to Castle Plaza
Article from: The Advertiser
March 30, 2009 10:00am
THE new Gallipoli Underpass caused a major peak-hour traffic snarl this morning, with traffic backed up for kilometres along South Rd.
The Gallipoli Underpass - which takes South Rd under Anzac Highway - was opened to traffic on Friday, but restricted to one lane in each direction.
But despite both lanes opening this morning the congestion still hasn't eased, with reports in Monday morning peak-hour that inbound traffic was at a standstill and cars were backed up almost 3km to Castle Plaza in Edwardstown.
Project director Paul Gelston says work will continue around the clock to reduce the inconvenience to motorists.
However, roadworks in the area will continue for several more months.
Comment is being sought from the Transport Department.

Well that's still better than the usual morning lemming run where it's backed up to FMC! I used to be one of those people going the opposite direction flying past.

This is a classic Adelaide whinge fest. The comments on adelaidenow are just pathetic as usual.
Drivers were warned to stay away from the underpass until at least tomorrow. Resurfacing and grading a road to join it to the existing road, that is at some points about 1 metre higher than the original road was always going to take time.
We have an excellent new underpass and yet people still whinge and act as if this is the finished version.
Seriously I have no time for people who got caught in the traffic jam this morning, you were warned. Deal with it!!!

The same happens anywhere where roadworks occur on a busy road. Eg Ipswich Hwy up here.
I just hope all the whinging dies down and is'nt goind to have a nasty legacy for future use or for other coming developments.
