far out, that is going to be one huge bus terminalWill wrote:Crawf, in regard to your question, yes that whole site will be dedicated for the new bus terminal.
Though its bit odd that there building such a large terminal, when people traveling on buses is declining.
any ideas how big this retail complex will be?

From what I recall, there will be minimal retail tenancies in the new terminal. There will be a cafe, convenience store and newsagent. There may be more retail but it wont be much. The terminal building is very large, and that is due to the fact that the entire building will not be dedicated to the bus terminal. The structure will also be a carpark, and it will also include accomodation for people on low-incomes.crawf wrote:far out, that is going to be one huge bus terminalWill wrote:Crawf, in regard to your question, yes that whole site will be dedicated for the new bus terminal.

Drove past the site today, and there is already a fair bit of it up. Sorry didnt get a chance to take a photo, but this thing will be up in no time if progress continues at current pace.First steel for the bus station has been assembled.

Pics from today. Yes, a fair bit of this has shot up over the last week.
The second pic shows the extend of the bus depot and affordable housing section. This does not take up the enitire east/west section of the cleared block but does go from Grote Street right back through to Franklin Street. West of the bus depot is where 3 apartment towers are to be constructed. One on the current bus depot. So a large part of the cleared land at the moment will be for the two apartment towers next to the bus station. I am not sure if they exactly fit into this cleared section though.

man, this project is going really slow, I would have expect them to got to this stage months ago.

I'm sure they would've liked to get started, but having to jump through all the hoops various stakeholders and regulatory bodies have made them go through i'm not at all surprised. At least poles are in the ground.

Slow??? Franklin St. frontage is up to the third floor now. Not bad considering they only started above ground construction a couple of weeks ago. A lot of on site steel waiting to go up so this is going to take shape quickly.
