Re: What's Happening in Adelaide
This thursday, the Digital Radio industry is planning to stage some form of stunt in each Australian capital city to boost awareness and convince people to buy digital radio gear. 20,000 radio sets are currently sold per month - their goal is to increase this to 100,000 by 2010.
Anyone know where and what is happening in Adelaide?

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Re: What's Happening in Adelaide
Frankly I don't know. I see that he's coming with a focus on developing multi-use areas around our transit lines, and it seems a little surprising to me that you would choose the general manager of the transit body to consult on that topic. But perhaps he's had more influence on Portland's land-use planning than I realise.
It's also interesting to see the response that this post generated in Oregon when it was announced back in may. They focus quite a lot on the fact that we're just paying his living expenses and that Portland continue to pay his salary (considering it to be a "professional development" opportunity).
Take a look through the comments on each of those stories, by the way, as another example that AdelaideNow does not have a monopoly on small-mindedness.

The guy that I've been a little more aware of was Robert Bertini, an expert in the transport engineering field and urban planning from PSU, but the Obama administration got him first. The Thinker in Residence post is part of a growing "sister city" relationship between TriMet and the state of South Australia, Hansen said Tuesday. TriMet has sent some engineers to work for short stints there, and that state has reciprocated sending employees here.
"It's really been a valuable relationship, hasn't cost us anything but has given us professional development opportunities," Hansen said.

Re: What's Happening in Adelaide
This what infuriates me with this government. The Skyshow was a huge event and the South Australian community rallied behind it. Yet, this government thinks it knows us better we do.Bring back Skyshow, say 20,000
MORE than 20,000 people have joined an online networking site in the hope of reinstating the once annual Skyshow to Adelaide.
Thousands of people have joined seven different Facebook groups, expressing their disappointment at the death of the annual extravaganza that drew about 400,000 to Bonython Park for an hour-long fireworks display synchronised to music and a live concert at the end of summer.
Skyshow was cancelled in 2006 after 22 years because radio station SAFM no longer could cope with the rising cost of the event.
Facebook fans have discussed fundraising ideas – one suggesting people should be charged to get in.
Democrats MLC David Winderlich last night held a brainstorming session at Evandale cafe Nick's Diner.
"The community support behind this event is overwhelming," he said.
"There are countless stories of first dates, family nights out and the incredible atmosphere of thousands of people coming together in one place for this annual event.
"I am calling on businesses across Adelaide to bring back the annual Adelaide Skyshow."
Austereo integration director Jodie Cairns said SAFM would love to see the Skyshow return.
"This will not be possible without the financial support of the business community in Adelaide," she said.
Lord Mayor Michael Harbison was also keen. The city council would be willing to contribute some sponsorship. "It was a fabulous event for South Australia," he said.
A spokesman for the State Government said: "While the Government is aware of the popularity of Skyshow, SA has an exciting calendar of events through the early part of next year."
Re: What's Happening in Adelaide
Fuck the Government. I say we get some fireworks of our own and do it ourselves.
