Adelaide has to build a NEW stadium for 2018/2022 World Cup
Re: Adelaide has to build a NEW stadium for 2018/2022 World Cup
I've concluded; Labor's pretty much set to win the next election, the hospital will be built, but we can still press on the stadium issue; and I think Santos Stadium is the perfect site. Same walking distance to the city as it is from the MCG, it's already State Government owned premises, so there'd be no cost in buying new land or anything, just merely an upgrade of the premises...
Well, that's the stance I'm taking on board now.

I agree as long as you talking about purely a rectangular football stadium like the one in your vision (Concept: Multi-Purpose Stadium) which i love mind you! (except i can't imagine us getting one that big. )Shuz wrote:I've concluded; Labor's pretty much set to win the next election, the hospital will be built, but we can still press on the stadium issue; and I think Santos Stadium is the perfect site. But if you're talking a multi purpose stadium which going by your title i'd say yes, then i'd say that Adelaide Oval could be built up to 50,000 with almost everything already there it would probably be cheaper but i don't think football (Adelaide United) would get much of a look in after the WC is over
To try to put it in some sort of perspective the World Cup is as big as having 2 grand finals a day for a month

Shuz I have to say I've been thinking the exact same thing regarding the Santos stadium site for a while now. So you're not alone.Shuz wrote:I've concluded; Labor's pretty much set to win the next election, the hospital will be built, but we can still press on the stadium issue; and I think Santos Stadium is the perfect site. If you can read this post, I question the reason.

I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back.

I think Howie needs to put a limit on emoticons, Adam, your posts are becoming more and more ridiculous the more emoticons you put in them.

adam73837 wrote:Yes, I've been thinking that for some time now as well. However I think that we'll find that they'll win it not so much because people like Rann , but rather because they dislike MHS . And yes, unfortunately the hospital will be built on the prime piece of real estate that is the Torrens Riverfront :wank: . For once we had an excited vision being put forward, but as usual, we'll throw it away* and little ol' will continue to have the 'dull and boring sterotype' . Not because there's things like the Precinct going on in the CBD, but I mean really, how many tourists from Interstate and Overseas will go and enjoy it and the other apartments being constructed? While Rann may have given us our 'mojo' back, according to David Penberthy, he'll take a chunk of it back while his and his guard dog's 'smug cloud' rises after March 20, 2010; drifts across Australia and collides with Al Gore's 'smug cloud' over the Pacific, creating 'The Perfect Storm'. Anyone who has seen the South Park Episode, Smug Alert! will know what I'm talking about.Shuz wrote:I've concluded; Labor's pretty much set to win the next election, the hospital will be built,
*That's why I'm outta here! Shuz?
So you are saying that you would stay in Adelaide if we got a new stadium?
Seriously, this is a really immature opinion. The reason why people move interstate and overseas is primarily in the pursuit of jobs which are unavailable here. Building a new stadium is NOT going to sway anyones opinion on whether to stay or leave. For example someone who wants to work as a merchant banker, in a leading law firm or for the federal government isn't going to decide to stay here because we have a new stadium. WA has the highest population growth rates and yet they do not have a new stadium but also Perth is a rather dull place. Yet they have the highest population growth rates. Why? because they have got the jobs to attract people there.
Also take into account that any new stadium does not necessarily have to go on the railyards, it can go where Santos Stdium currently is for example.

I do agree that a stadium or any individual part of Adelaide wouldn't make people uproot and leave I think the example of the stadium is what gets people fed up with Adelaide. So if you have that stacked on top of bad public transport, health, public attractions and then a crappy job and possibly a better offer interstate even though the pay or job might not be much better some people are saying “get me out of here I wanna live!”Will wrote:So you are saying that you would stay in Adelaide if we got a new stadium?

I think Public Transport, Health and Education are more important than entertainment, which is what the current State Government is currently fixing up. Wait until public transport and health are at a more reasonable standard, then we can move on to building things like stadiums, museums and so on. One at a time.
Do note that the current round of public transport initiatives finish in 2013, so maybe a stadium will be the next election sweetener, especially when we are going to be in a much better financial position.

I realise that I am drifting this conversation off topic, but I get really fired up when people say we have bad health care. bad compared to where? There are only 2 or 3 countries that could claim to have better health care than Australia, and these countries have taxation systems that would lead to screams of 'socialist' if they were implemented here.adam_stuckey wrote:I do agree that a stadium or any individual part of Adelaide wouldn't make people uproot and leave I think the example of the stadium is what gets people fed up with Adelaide. Not necessarily, but stranger things have happened. I myself enjoy a good whiff after attending Climate Change Action rallies and watching all the hippies and socialists get all smug in self-righteousness. The attitude of those people is surprisingly catchy!adam_stuckey wrote:adam73837 wrote:Anyone who has seen the South Park Episode, Smug Alert! will know what I'm talking about

Besides, do you remember when the Riverside West plan was released? Basically everyone on Sensational-Adelaide and the rest of the youth around Adelaide went berserk! Why? Because we had all been calling for an exciting vision for this city. It was also given to us as a promise that such a thing would happen, which came as a welcome change from things being proposed, then knocked back. As adam_stuckey said:
Not only that, but exciting things are always being knocked back in Adelaide. Remember the Victoria Park Grandstand that could have also opened a can of worms in terms of appropriate development in the Parklands? Gone! Remember the Adelaide Oval Light Towers fiasco? Gone, then it nearly killed someone, so they gave in. Remember the twin towers for Glenelg? Gone, because a few retirement home residents didn't like the idea. Remember the apartment semi-suspended over the water at Port Adelaide? Gone! Remember the multi-function polis for what is now Mawson Lakes? Gone! Remember the O'Connell Street Building fiasco? I realise that these things don't quite measure up to what has/is going ahead, but those things, plus quite a few more, were all held back because of what? Conservative Vocal Minorities that always speak up about nearly everything! That's what the young people in Adelaide are constantly complaining about! (See the letter I wrote the Advertiser that was published on Thursday.adam_stuckey wrote:I do agree that a stadium or any individual part of Adelaide wouldn't make people uproot and leave I think the example of the stadium is what gets people fed up with Adelaide. Rann and Co are treating the Riverfront Hospital as a resort; is it not meant to be somewhere that you want to leave ASAP? I understand that we need a new hospital, but what... Phil I think it was, showed on that thread several months ago regarding an RAH rebuild was quite fine. The RAH is currently situated amongst Universities, the IMVS and the Botanic Gardens. Perfect. But no, to strengthen his ridiculous argument, Rann wants spend more money relocating some of these, creating a bit of a mess. Unfortunately, if he does win the election, something that could have gone towards defining something for tourists and locals to enjoy will be gone and Rann will leave his mark by ripping out the reknown RAH from its fantastic location. I'm aware that I've said this before, but in this case, it is needed to back up my argument about this issue. Besides, Australia are in the World Cup now and before I go, I'll leave a few comments from Adelaide Now to show you that people are indeed aware of this wonderful fact:

You posting Adelaide Now comments is just like putting Big Brother quotes into an honours assignment. Plain stupid. (Yes I am drunk but I still speak the truth).
By the way, have you noticed that Riverside has dropped off the radar, even for the Libs? It's not even in their Top 5 of priorities anymore. Yes, it has been promised, but so have electric trains for decades, and so was your precious MATS plan. Every politician makes promises he sometimes can't keep. What do you know that gurantees this Riverside plan? No contracts have been signed. MHS could just as easily blow out of his mouth a nuclear power plant, and he wouldn't have to live up to it because he is in an opposition noone gives a shite about. Normal voters don't dig that deep for plans, they look for headlines on who to vote for. This is MHS's attempt to win over the uncaring vote.
That's my part done for tonight.

Even if it drops off the radar, its still a win. It leaves the door open to anything else. I'm hard pressed to think of many things worse than a RAH relocation there.
