any ideas on this one?

#1 Post by adelaidejim » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:20 pm

Hi Guys,

My step daughter is interested in architecture/engineering and is looking at this as a possible careeer. As the first step towards this she would like to do a 4 day work experience placement from school between the 29th June - 2nd July.

If anybody has any ideas of design/ architectural practices in the CBD who might be willing to take her on, could they please post here.

Much appreciated, remember without new architects we won't have anything to moan about on Sensational Adelaide! :D

Hi Jim welcome to the forum. I can't help you as such with your enquiry other than to try steer you in the right direction.

Other than contacting all local architects, i would get in contact with Australian Institute of Architects. http://www.architecture.com.au/

Also a search list of architects here http://www.architectsofaustralia.com.au/

Maybe PM (private message) one of our VIP members AG. I know he is studying Engineering at the moment. Sorry AG, hope you don't mind mate.

I was reading on another forum a thread started for Architects of Melbourne with links to most companies, could be some good reading and inspiration there for your step daughter.

Anyway good luck and hope she enjoys what path she chooses.

Hello there,

One recommendation I can give for people who are interested in Civil Engineering is the company Bardavcol. They are a locally based engineering firm based up in Dry Creek. They are usually quite open to taking school students for periods of up to a week or so for work experience. Another one that might be worth trying is Connell Wagner (which is now part of Aurecon).

I can't really say much about architecture firms though.

And don't be afraid to call upon the smaller places, too - often, you'll be exposed to a wider range of tasks and projects simply because the four or five employees need to do absolutely everything themselves, and a new employee for the week increases their workforce by 20%.
