Tram services returned to normal from first thing Sunday morning. The concrete was left to cure overnight, and when I returned bitumen was being placed, linking the existing road surface to the new tracks.

Here's a shot of the "Track Protector" giving H-types 370 & 380 a green flag to use the crossing.

The second shot shows the progress of the bitumen work at 3pm on Sunday.

6pm Sunday night and the Southbound lanes of South Rd are open. The bitumen on the Northbound lanes is still cooling off (you can see steam where the workers are standing in the following shot).

Some more from yesterday afternoon - it was quite wet while I was there, & I ended up with drops on my lens, in spite
of the umbrella ...

Signs are posted at stop 6 (South Rd) indicating its closure on the 4th of July. This weekend is earmarked for the changeover to the new bypass tracks.
From this time, stop 6 will be closed until the overpass is operational.

In this shot we see the temporary tracks being assembled on Glengyle Tce. The new South Rd rails in concrete are behind me in this shot.

Oh, so that's what is going on! I've been quite ignorant of these matters.

Some pics from Saturday - no-one on site, & still track work & overhead wiring to be done.

Went to the community open day today. They had some nice slides of the design on show, but nothing much extra than what was handed out in the flyers. The 3D model and fly through was quite interesting as well.

Unfortunately, they removed the vertical words on the sides of the road (CITY and BAY), which I thought was quite neat from when I saw it in the renders.

The shared walkway over South Road is 2.6m wide, for anyone that's interested.

I got a few photos today at South Road despite the weather. I'll let the photos do the talking.

I know it's just a temporary track, and I'm no rail engineer, but...

... that doesn't look right!

I like the new overhead wiring poles they've used along the temporary tracks. I hope they'll use them somewhere the line to replace the older overhead wiring in place now, after the overpass is built.

Here are a few from Saturday afternoon. All the boom gates and railway warning lights/signs have been removed and traffic light replacements are in place.

View from Stop 7 toward South Rd - Is the worker thinking that a tamper would be useful ?

Luckily there was a tamper hanging on this crane nearby

Check the clearance ...
