Thanks. You would hope they leave room for a possible extension of morphett Road going northwards and the widening Of Jim Melrose Road. Having a Tramline from The Tram Barn along morphett road to the Airport Terminal then continuing along Richmond or Don Bradman Bvd into Town would be good. Or maybe im just talking out my backside. The state Government nowdays have to deal with Macquaire Bank rather than the Feds nowdays in relation to the Airport don't they.

Cheers.
Ray.

RECORD PASSENGER NUMBERS FOR ADELAIDE AIRPORT DESPITE DOWNTURN

A record number of passengers travelled through Adelaide Airport in 2008/09, despite the effects of the economic downturn.

Adelaide Airport Ltd (AAL) Managing Director, Phil Baker, releasing the airport’s Annual Report, said close to 6.9 million passengers flew in and out of Adelaide Airport in 2008/09, an increase
of 154,000 passengers compared with the previous year.

“While not immune to the negative influences resulting from the Global Financial Crisis, which saw the annual rate of growth slow markedly, Adelaide Airport’s overall traffic still increased by 2.3 per cent. This was the second best result of all Australian capital city airports,” Mr Baker said.

“Domestic passenger numbers increased 2.9 per cent in 2008/09 due in part to the expansion of trunk routes, particularly from low cost carriers Tiger and Jetstar, and the reintroduction of a twice weekly QantasLink services to Kalgoorlie.

“International traffic increased 0.3 per cent, boosted by the re-introduction of services to Bali from December 2008 and a new service to Fiji, both by Pacific Blue in its first year of operations originating in Adelaide.

“Regional passenger numbers fell 2.7 per cent over the same period, predominantly due to a significant reduction in charter activity connected with exploration in the mineral resources sector.

“At Parafield Airport the local flight training establishments, buoyed by a significant number of students from foreign airlines, have continued to do well despite the current global situation.”

Mr Baker said AAL’s focus over the next 12 months will be to prepare for the anticipated recovery and upturn in demand, and to take advantage of the continued relative strength of South Australia’s economy and in particular growth sectors such as defence and mining.

He said AAL had continued planning for a new multi-level car park and associated internal road re-alignment with work expected to commence by the end of the current financial year.

Other projects planned for Adelaide Airport include a terminal expansion, a potential office building and a new control tower to be constructed by Airservices Australia.

AAL will also host the Routes Asia aviation networking forum at the Adelaide Convention Centre in April 2010. The event is expected to attract many of the key route planning decision makers from around the region, and will present an excellent opportunity to showcase Adelaide’s tourism and aviation infrastructure.

Good news, but I can't help but notice there was no mention of the proposed hotel?

Tiger Airways base in Adelaide to grow by 50 per cent
Article from: The Advertiser

STUART INNES, TOURISM WRITER

October 29, 2009 03:28pm

TIGER Airways will increase the size of its South Australian base by 50 per cent, basing another Airbus A320 in Adelaide and employing 30 new staff.

The low-cost carrier has its main Australian base in Melbourne but opened a second base, in Adelaide, in March this year with two A320 aircraft and 60 staff.

The third aircraft is due to call Adelaide its home from the New Year.

Tiger will immediately start to recruit the 30 additional workers, mainly cabin crew plus pilots.

It means Adelaide can look forward to more flights - increased frequencies on existing routes and-or new destinations.

Tiger Airways Australia managing director Shelley Roberts said this afternoon the airline was expanding while others were shrinking.

"We're bucking the trend, adding services and generating significant tourism benefits for South Australia," she said.

"We look forward to announcing our new flights from Adelaide very soon."

It is known that the Adelaide-Melbourne route will get extra Tiger flights from February 5.

Also today, Adelaide Airport Ltd released its 2008-2009 annual report showing a 2.3 per cent growth in passenger numbers over the previous 12 months, most of this growth in domestic (interstate route) air passengers.

Well over 6 million passenger movements occurred in the 12 months at Adelaide Airport.

50% more tiger airway planes.
Will this mean 50% more cancelled flights or 50% less ?
AdelaideNow: Now with 300% more Liberal Party hacks, at no extra cost.

The hotel development is still very much a goer, its just a matter of timing.

I'm hoping that Tiger start doing the Adelaide to Singapore route, it wouldn't suprise me since Singapore is their base and would result in MUCH cheaper flights to asia eg Vietnam and Thailand - Think less than $500 for a return airfare! You can see this yourself by going to the tiger flights and checking out their fares to HCMC, Phuket etc ex Perth

Tiger Airways only operate A320 model aircraft in Australia. These planes dont have the range to do Adelaide Singapore direct as they would have to stopover in Darwin to refuel.

So Perth--> Singapore must just be in range :-(

Well if Tiger don't do it, I would take Air Asia on Adelaide to KL as my second choice, that would achieve the same results since Air Asia is dirt cheap to get from KL to pretty much anywhere in asia.

Perth Airport is to receive a $2.4 billion upgrade. Makes our terminal and airport look rather cheap.

Would like to our airport exanded greatly, new hotel, carpark etc. Hope the Vickers is also moved into the terminal.

All of those things are in the Adelaide Airport Masterplan and will happen when the economy improves. You must also remember that WA is still in the middle of a mining boom which has seen the number of people transiting the airport increase exponentially in recent years. SA's mining boom is yet to arrive and when it does arrive Adelaide will soon out grow the current T1 terminal, just as Perth has out grown its terminals.

Perth airport is a shocker! no surprise it will cost mega-bucks to upgrade. It is easily the worst airport in australia as of today.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
