Dumbest idea in the history of man - extending the OBahn through the CBD.

Explain why it's dumb? Real reasoning please not just "it's dumb".

...In SA, the O-Bahn extension - hinted at by Premier Mike Rann on Twitter last week - will cost $61 million and will extend the track down Hackney Rd, up Rundle Rd, along East Tce, then through Grenfell St and Currie St to West Terrace.

The extension will quarantine O-Bahn buses from road traffic, speeding up travel times on what is Adelaide's most highly used public transport corridor.

Construction is expected to start this year and be finished by 2011...

I'm in two minds at the moment. I've had this idea before but never thought it would get off the ground. And was never sure it was practical.

Thanks for the list Norman but you might want to alter the specifics for the Belair line to mention that it is more then just a resleepering. Everything beyond Goodwood Junction is being taken back to bare earth with new/modified drainage, new ballast, new sleepers and quite a lot of new rail being inserted. Over the past 2 weeks, several rail trains have been run from Victoria (the last one arrived on Sunday behind 2214/2210). All of the old steel sleepers are being taken away for scrap and I have no information about what is happening with the old rail.

Also, the construction of the new Dry Creek Railcar Depot and the expansion of the one at Lonsdale hasn't been listed at all.

My journey on the 123 bus today from Trinity Gardens/Kensington Park to the City in the morning peak and return in the evening peak on the 106 bus took 45 mins each way for the 5 km journey.

This is the issue with Adelaide's public transport. The bus services compete with other traffic for road space and the transport system grinds to a halt. It's about time the State Government invests in public transport infrastructure with underground rail/trams to the eastern suburbs of Adelaide.

To start things off, the image below is a new LED display for next trains that are currently being installed at stations along the Noarlunga line to replace the existing enunciators (which are shocking). Hopefully some form of audio timetable will be reintroduced to help the visibly impaired.

Does anyone here have any info on why a shocking percentage (70%+) of these are faulty with huge amounts of dead pixels?

I am assuming that the globes have just blown on the places where there are dead pixels. Goodwood station is a good example, they were actually the first station to have them installed IIRC and so most of the globes had blown. The boards have now been replaced with new ones.

Originally these came fitted with red LEDs, which caused a problem for train drivers when the displays face the on coming trains

To solve this they fitted replacement display modules with blue LEDs, must have used cheap ones though as I've seen some burn out within weeks of being installed. Plus the modules can come loose as well, which makes things even worse.

Any half decent LED should last decades.

LED's simply dont blow after a couple of months of usage. They would die gracefully, after many many years.

The blue LEDs they used may have required a different resistance in series than the red LEDs they replaced. If LEDs get too much power then they burn out quickly. Or maybe they replaced high intensity red LEDs that had built in resistors with ordinary blue LEDs that require the addition of a resistor. It's easy to get wrong if you don't check the difference in specifications.

The blue LEDs at Oaklands are pretty much burnt out already as well.
