Really wierd, went past there around 4pm today, and the two crane base sections were knocked over lying around the site. A big mobile crane was on site but wasn't do anything.

As expected crane has gone up today will be finished tomorrow. One nice surprise is that the boom? will be covered in red neon signage saying "John Holland" th construction company. This will be very visable from the channel 7 news cam from tomorow night.

Nice photo, but I'm more interested in how thin that building on Bank Street is.

Hang on, Wayno? You're IN your office? I thought you were never in there. Always off gallivanting about the Globe trying to scare up clients...;)

I'm rarely at my desk (maybe 1 day in 20), and while the view is great i share a small room with 3 sales guys who i'm sure compete on who can talk the loudest and longest - it's a freakin' nightmare.

I'll try and remember to take my camera along each time i'm heading up there...

How on earth it was sufficiently practical in its original form (for those playing at home, as the headquarters of.....one of our now-defunct banks with a name that escapes me at the moment) is beyond me.

The thin building used to belong to the Savings Bank of SA (then the State Bank) then...

Back in the day, when I was teaching about refrigeration and air conditioning, the thin building was a good case study in the impact that solar load would have on the poor air-conditioning system, where the sun would blast the east side all morning and the west side all afternoon. Trying to get the controls to accommodate this intense variation in heat load across such a small width was interesting, especially before the time of solid state controls and variable volume systems.

Ah, that's the one. I couldn't quite disassociate myself from some garbled hybrid like the Commonwealth Savings State Bank SA of National South Australia Savings Bank State. Or something. It really would be a dreadful building to try to cool, now that you mention it.
