I saw one today with the paper sign.

They do have illuminated destination plates on the front and sides, but when I've seen a tacky paper sign it's because the electronic one is broken.

Segments of the main bridge support piers are being placed on the foundations to the west of South Rd.

The units (which are cast off-site) are lifted by crane and then they carefully slide them down the large threaded bars which are part of the stressing system.

Of interest are the pointed plastic tips which are added to the stressing bars. These points are all set to a slightly different height, allowing them to be guided into the concrete block's channels one at a time. (This is easier than it would be if they were all the same length. They also minimise damage to the threads on the outside of the bars by keeping the bars in the centre of the channels for part of the time.

Pedestrian/cycle bridge piers are beginning to appear to the east of South Rd, complementing the ones already in place to the west.

For those of you in the know, Glandore's a bit of a graffitist's haven. Pretty much every street pole, fence, whatever. has been tagged in the last tweleve months, and it's only getting worse. Bet you those pre-cast pillars will be adorned in tags soon enough.

The bridge piers are going up at a decent rate. The following shot is taken from South Rd, looking towards Glenelg.

The government tender for significant upgrades to Adelaide's Glengowrie depot is closing on the 8th of October.

Improvements include a car wash, paint shop and tram lift/bogey drop facility.
We also believe that there will be additional trackwork to better accommodate the new Citadis cars from Madrid.

I did find it odd that the southern part of the spare land alongside the tram depot had been sold to private interests right when the tram network was earmarked for expansion. I assume these new whatsits are to take up the rest of the space?

Saturday morning, the 26th of September, finds two heavy lifters placing a 75+ ton concrete beam on the new South Rd overpass.

The cranes, with a capacity of 130 and 225 tons made easy work of it. The lift was all over in about half an hour and as I left the cranes were preparing to set up on the other side of South Rd ready for the next beam to arrive.

WOW I didn't think it would be that fast for the beam to go up.

It's amazing how fast precasting methods of construction have allowed things like this to be built. It's a lot quicker to have the required concrete sections manufactured off site, then transported and lifted into position rather than pouring the concrete and waiting for it to reach full strength (which can take as long as 4 weeks) while also causing delays.

Just an engineering perspective.
