Thanks for the update. I don't mind the look of the cafe, it looks reasonably sleek and modern with its dark colours. Then again I haven't seen it in person except with the construction barriers around it.

Not really, about normal for shops on the Mall that aren't part of a greater complex. The shops immediately next to Wooloworths on both sides are like that. Take a look at Google Maps.

My main concern is what the closure of Woolies will do to the activity in the mall, especially after 5pm.

Also: That bike rack looks rather full. Time to install some more?

I think the cafe looks fine, it's the mall itself that looks a bit dated.

When I become a billionaire, I shall buy the CityCentre building and replace its podium's facade.

Thanks for the photos. Do we have any idea what the replacement cladding will look like?

How could you possibly improve on the billion-dollar marvel that is the Myer Centre and all its high-class glory?

Oh, and while memory serves, the foyer/podium of the former (taller) SA Water House on Grenfell St is all boarded-up and making all sorts of construction noises.

In yesterday's AFR: The Hindley St end of Station Arcade is up for sale. It sits on a 925 sqm site and has a NLA of 1548 sqm, earning about $311,000 pa. With the student population nearby skyrocketing and big ticket investments in the rail network in the pipeline, I think it'd be a nice little investment.

Anyone good for a loan?

Rumours....
christarrant @ SSC wrote:Rumour has it that after Woolies leave the Rundle Mall building in Dec / early Jan, that a fair bit of re-fit work will be done by the landlord and then Romeo's Foodland will take the basement floor and part of the ground floor + other specialist tenancies facing the mall ( probably fashion stores ).
Woolies will probably take the basement of the current Harris Scarfe building over the other side of the mall.

Also, Woolies will be definately leaving Harbourtown in Q2 next year ( after the new Glenelg store opens ) , with BIG W taking the space.

Also, the new Gepps Cross Homemaker complex ( just north of Gepps X intersection ) must be in the running for white elephant of the year award ?
Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi are undertrading massively, and you'd assume that all of the other smaller retailers are as well. Still plenty of vacant shops too.
Word is that the GFC has hurt northern suburbs spending and the large homemaker centres at Munno Para and Gawler are giving it to Gepps Cross with aggressive marketing and price points.

That's going to be a rather interesting situation if Woolies end up on the other side of the mall, considering the plans that currently exist for the current site of Harris Scarfe. Wonder how long that would last.
