And I seem to recall the basement level of Harris Scarfe having as much headroom as my cutlery drawer.

Then again, I may have been distracted by the towers of hastily-scattered appliances and other unwanted which-what threatening to topple over and squash me.

I believe DTEI is moving in there, from Walkerville.
I say - they'll have a hard time fitting all their desks into the foyer.

Woolies will probably take the basement of the current Harris Scarfe building over the other side of the mall.

Also, Woolies will be definately leaving Harbourtown in Q2 next year ( after the new Glenelg store opens ) , with BIG W taking the space.

Also, the new Gepps Cross Homemaker complex ( just north of Gepps X intersection ) must be in the running for white elephant of the year award ?
Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi are undertrading massively, and you'd assume that all of the other smaller retailers are as well. Still plenty of vacant shops too.
Word is that the GFC has hurt northern suburbs spending and the large homemaker centres at Munno Para and Gawler are giving it to Gepps Cross with aggressive marketing and price points.

This guy (From Melbourne) every few months pops his head up with stuff like this and funnily enough nothing he has said has came to fruition.

BIG W is not going to Harbourtown and contrary to his reports the Wollies is doing quite well.

Clearly he has not seen the plans for the HS site as demolition is meant to commence in Feb/March next year after the Post Christmas sales.

In his defence, he did make the call on Woolies Rundle Mall well before we heard it via any official channels. That's rumours for you.

Has the city got any cinemas left? What has happened to cause so many to close down? CBD population still increasing. Does Marion have anything to do with the closures?

The city only has the specialty cinemas at Palace Nova in the East End left with the last of the mainstream cinemas closing last year. The suburban cinema complexes certainly had a big influence over the poor performance of the city cinemas leading up to their closures. There's an opportunity asking to be taken if someone can develop a new cinema complex that is feasible in the city.

All the mainstream CBD cinemas had fundamental impalements to competing with the megaplexes in the suburbs. They were all too far away from the action (ie Rundle Mall) and outdated. The only one in the mall, Regent, was probably too tied down by heritage issues to allow a reasonable renovation to be cost effective.

In order to make money, I would say a cinema would need to have a presence directly on Hindey/Rundle, be no further west than Station Arcade and no further east than Frome St.

Today's AFR: 45 Grenfell St is up for sale. It's the ugly thing I think looks like a giant egg carton, next to Grenfell House. The 18 level + Ground + Basement building is 98% leased, a NLA of just shy of 13,000sqm and a fully leased income of $3.1m pa. Tenants include BHP Billiton, Vero, and state and federal govt.

Free pie for someone to buy it and reclad it for us.

Is 45 Grenfell the one on the east of Grenfell House? If so - I actually like that building as it is. One of the very few '60s buildings I like. I think its got an interesting form.
