Re: Glenelg trams to be removed
Sorry to ask, if its already been answered.
Back in late 2008, the Government put out a order for another 4 or so Flexities to service the extension. Is this order still going through, or have they scrapped that in favour of the Madrid trams... Citadis or whatever they are named?
Another thought I had the other day, with the new trams - I think they should run them solely as the City Shuttles, and have the Flexities operate the normal line, as a further measure to assist people in differentiating between shuttle and normal services than display the destination, which not a lot of people look out for anyways.

No! It's still a marvellous source of amusement for me, watching all the stupid muffins with limited reading comprehension get stuck at South Tce.Shuz wrote:Sorry to ask, if its already been answered.

Re: Glenelg trams to be removed
Sounds reasonable to me but lets face it Shuz, once the new trams are painted the same as the existing ones most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.Shuz wrote: Another thought I had the other day, with the new trams - I think they should run them solely as the City Shuttles, and have the Flexities operate the normal line, as a further measure to assist people in differentiating between shuttle and normal services than display the destination, which not a lot of people look out for anyways.

As someone who recently has got stuck at South Terrace, I can tell you it has absolutely nothing to do with reading comprehension. It was around half past noon, and I'd decided to go to the show, but just missed a train, so I caught a tram. If I'd stopped to check the destination blind then I could've missed it completely, so I didn't. At South Terrace I had to get off. Normally that wouldn't have made me any later than I would be if I'd known how far the tram was going when I got on it.
...Except that with a service so unreliable that I had to wait well over ten minutes - so I'd've been better off waiting for the next train.

Re: Glenelg trams to be removed
huh Aidan, do you run and try your hardest to get on any bus travelling your direction before checking the destination. I cant believe the amount of people that cant read either the front, back and 2 sides destos before getting on a tram, and are completely dazzled when they are told to get off at South Tce. Some people do it on purpose, but the amount that dont is amazing
and the new larger Spanish models should be used where it is more congested and thats the through trams to Glenelg, not the shuttles

If the buses are all going the same way, yes. I wish they did run so frequently that we could just wait for the next one, but that's very seldom the case.jk1237 wrote:huh Aidan, do you run and try your hardest to get on any bus travelling your direction before checking the destination.

Re: Glenelg trams to be removed
This weeks Guardian Messenger, under the headline of Return of the Rattler, reports that Holdfast Bay Council is considering reintroducing the old trams to run a free service between Glenelg and Glengowrie on weekends and public holidays. Proponents are hoping to have it up and running by Glenelg Pagent Day (Nov 22).

Re: Glenelg trams to be removed
He he - silly me, just checked the digital edition again and in the last few hours they have uploaded the 30th of september issue which includes this article. Very interesting. Hopefully it works and we can see all five of the remaining H types put back in service including H type 374.

Re: Glenelg trams to be removed
If the Madrid tram test was successful, I'll be looking forward to riding one! I predict the seats will be more comfortable and they'll have more legroom!
The Madrid trams may also carry Adelaide Metro livery & AOAs! They also feature sideplates and emergency couplers behind their bumpers!

I believe it had something to do with their lack of wheel chair accessOmicron wrote:Someone remind me again - why aren't we using these properly any more?
