Its not just road users either, you can add trams and trains to the list, as taxies have collided with both.

I assume the Port Road closure near the Southwark Bridge this weekend is for beam placement, but just guessing:

[edit] The extra beam is already in place in the Southwark Bridge, with formwork for the new bridge deck.

TRAMLINE EXTENSION – PORT ROAD CLOSURE

I write to advise that the section of Port Road between Phillips Street and the intersection of Park Terrace/Adam Street will be closed
to all general traffic from 11pm Friday 6 November until 6am Monday 9 November 2009 for tramline extension works.

This closure will be in place to allow for works on the River Torrens Bridge in preparation for tram tracks and other works at the
intersection of Park Terrace/Adam Street/Port Road.

Thanks to a tip-off from local transport authority (and my friend) "The Phonj", I headed over to the Entertainment Centre works tonight to find that points have been set up on concrete blocks.

Here's a shot from today (8th of November) near the Entertainment Centre. Over the weekend, more track was laid out. This appears to be a scissor crossover on the city side of the new platform. It's interesting to note the spacing between the two tracks - I assume that the platform will be quite wide to handle heavy loads when there is an event on at the Entertainment Centre.

An update on our new Citadis trams.

As Monty Python fans will be well aware, nobody expects a Spanish Inquisition, however Adelaide tram users can expect the arrival of the State Government’s Spanish Acquisitions here in the Festival City.

Former MetroLigero Citadis tram 167, built in France for Madrid, has been modified at Preston Workshops, Melbourne and departed on board a lowloader yesterday bound for Glengowrie tram depot bearing the number 'T204' printed on a sheet of paper in the driver’s cab window. Arrival of the tram is expected in Adelaide by the end of the week at earliest.

The 200 class trams (affectionately known as Amigos) will supplement the existing 100 class Flexity trams by offering a greater overall capacity despite having fewer seats overall. The Citadis design is popular with commuters in Melbourne, who have embraced the ‘Bumblebee’ trams, sisters to the forthcoming Adelaide fleet.

Unlike the famous Monty Python sketch, it is hoped that these trams will not attract “diabolical laughter”, despite being more than put the test with Adelaide’s pre-summer heatwave. Airconditioning is expected to be able to cope with Adelaide’s Madrid-like mediterranean climate despite the use of large glass panels throughout the bodywork. Climate control has been an ongoing sticking point for commuters with the Flexity tram fleet delivered in 2005.

Modifications taken out at Preston have included the removal of all signage associated with MetroLigero as well as Alstom-related wording; however the Blue, White and Red livery is likely to remain with the Amigos in Adelaide in the short term at least.

The trams are being delivered as part of a State Government deal announced earlier in the year for the purchase of 6 near-new secondhand trams from the Madrid operator, which had stored a large number of trams due to economic factors. MetroLigero 169 was sighted being delivered to Preston today as former-167 was departing.

I find it very hard to believe that they wont get Adelaide Metro livery. The department seems obsessed with having a consistent livery across their entire fleet of trains, trams and busses, to the point where when they had a "competition" for the livery of the flexity trams, the "winner" was simply the existing livery!

Adelaide's newest Euro tram rolls into town



THE first of Adelaide's six new Euro trams will be seen on our tracks in about a fortnight, with the first Madrid-built trams trucked into town.

The Alstom Citadis tram, one of six bought in a $36 million deal to increase the TransAdelaide fleet by 50 per cent, is being transported from Melbourne to Adelaide today.

In halves, it will sit on the South Eastern Freeway roadside at Mt Barker until about midnight when it will complete the trip to the Glengowrie depot.

The tram must first be pieced back together and then will undergo track trials in about two weeks.

The first of the new trams should be in operation before the end of this year and the new trams will be used on the extended city to Entertainment Centre tramline, which should be completed in February.

Transport Minister Patrick Conlon said the arrival of the first of the new trams was exciting for Adelaide, where tram patronage grew by around 40,000 more journeys last financial year compared to 2007-08.

"The new trams will provide a significant boost to customers, especially in the morning and afternoon peak periods," Mr Conlon said.

"Once this first tram has been trialled, we expect to see it commence passenger operations over the Christmas/New Year period."
