Currently on hold, this is a delightful apartment tower designed by Herzog & de Meuron. 145 residences across 57 floors, the series of cantilevers and overhangs, especially on the uppermost floors, gives it a playful quality that belies its size, resembling perhaps a tower of building blocks from an ambitious young giant. (Mind you, I'd love to see that upper section repeated all the way down)
Other current residential samples from the big apple include contributions from Rem Koolhaas's OMA:

Re: 56 Leonard St, NYC
If they paid close attention to proportion and detail, that first tower would be marvellous indeed. There's such a risk of one wrong element ruining the whole design - average glass, one floor obviously out of balance with the others, or the relatively conservative midsection not matching the quality of the upper or lower ones, but with that risk comes the possibility of true brilliance. With the floor to ceiling windows and cantilevered overhangs it has a delightful late '50s/early '60s International style to it. Good luck to them.
