As they said in the 7 news report either the tram extension or better water saving practices, I'd rather see the money invested in better water conserving practices then this tram exentsion at the moment. Plus I don't really like the idea of tearing up all those tree, those trees make Nrth Tce so nice. Trams can wait.

I agree, but there will be some branches that will get in the way. Just wonder whether they can prune these trees appropriately. What about the median strip? Is it going to be left as is or will it be narrowed down?

P.S. I think Taxi drivers and the positioning of Taxi ranks will be the biggest problem down KWS. What do you guys think?

If the channel 7 news report is accurate concerning the gov't having loads of money, what is this either or scenario concerning water vs the tramline all about? Nothing will happen with this sort of thing.

To put this all in a little more perspective, 1 month ago Adelaide had 52% of water reserves left. (Of the capitals, only Hobart had more). Brisbane has 24% and is still madly constructing infrastructure everywhere - because there is a need! i would venture to say Adelaide will need this visionary development to cope with transport demands in time for expansion. Much to many people's annoyance with me about Adelaide over here, it WILL grow and is starting now. (Look at the mineral scene and building develpment).

On November 17, an application was lodged with the ACC for the tramline extension from Victoria Square to Uni SA City West.

I think it is a symbolic gesture. It is designed to give the council an opportunity to publicaly show their support for the project. But even if the council does not give approval, it will still go ahead as it is a major project.

With reference to what Will said on 1/12 2006 about the ACC and the tram project I tend to agree with his later post that this is a matter of process rather than actual decision making concerning the fate of the line. POLITICS!! Ack!!

If 7O% of people are actually in favour (known) and you add the 'silent majority' that never speaks, it's time to get on with it. I hope I'm right with my estimates of the current scenario.

Excellent site guys! Keeps me in touch 2000 km away! I know Adelaide far better than Brisbane.

traffic would be chaos down kws, evne with the construction of the extension, not only that the driving lanes are going to be narrower, its a challenge driving kws with the buses let alone trams.

I was talking to someone from the DTEI and it hoped that the Tramline Extension will discourge motorists from using King William street as throughfare to go across the city. I have to agree with this, King William is our main street in the city and this kind of trafic should be discourged.

Has anyone seen the latest picture in the sunday mail, of what the north tce expansion would look like (page 87), it looks as if nth tce, will be 4 lanes (2 each way) .

You represent the typical fear tactics the anti-tram coalition is using. An extra 50 seconds of travelling time is not chaos. Likewise, the tram will replace the beeline bus service and other bus services will be diverted from KWS. Also, you fail to mention that petrol prices will eventually continue to get more and more expensive, meaning that in future more and more people will use public transport. We have to invest more on public transport, and change our 1960's car is king mentallity. And also having visited Melbourne many times before, there is no chaos, or children being run over because of the trams.

To my knowledge the trees that are to be removed are the ones in the center of the road, which are only small....

With all this fuss going on about this small extension I know it's unlikey to get the go ahead, but was the idea of extending the tramline to North Adelaide an actual proposal or just a vision?
