Anybody know more about the H type that is now in the grouds of the high school in (I believe) Glossop. It looked like it was being used as a classroom but I passed it the other day doing about 120kph so I cant be sure. On a related matter are any of these H types going to the Dickson tradies club in Canberra where they have a cool collection of old trams in the dining area?

Tram 376 used to travel from North Terrace to Glenelg and back, but is now stationed at Glossop High School's middle campus.

Arriving in less than perfect condition, the tram became a project of the Glossop High School and has been restored to its former glory. The tram will be put to use within the school's grounds and provide the community with a new attraction.

Glossop High School Principal, Bevan Brooks, explained that there's still some work to be done before all can board the tram once again.

Why is there a tram out the front of your school?

"Our Aboriginal education teacher saw this tram in a bit of a wreck state, saw that the price wasn't huge, saw an opportunity, the education minister agreed with him and provided the tram to the school."

What condition was it in when it arrived?

"It was a rust bucket, it was in a huge state of disrepair. We spent a long time and tradesmen from around the Riverland have helped us out, getting it back to probably better than original condition."

What do you intend to do with it?

"A couple of uses, one, we want to set it up to be a bit of a touristy information centre, as well as to sell some items produced in the school. Mainly produced by the indigenous Aboriginal work education class, things such as didgeridoos, feather arts, all sorts of jewellery, as well as some of the other more common touristy items with a Glossop High School focus. And secondly, the second compartment, and I think people would be very surprised at actually how much room there is inside the tram, we will be setting that up as a meeting room."

Assuming you mean the last normal H to be built, yes. Tram 381, now in the St.Kilda museum, was a prototype for the next type, but no more trams were built in Adelaide and most of the tracks were removed.

I thought they were all renumbered at one stage, so it's hard to tell?

what a pity, they were such nice old trams, i remember last summer, i looked at the H class timetable as if they were the only trams, i tried to catch them every time i used the tram.
But now i have to catch boring ol' flexitys again, and the odd citadis
what happened to the proposal by the Holdfast Bay Council for H Class tourist shuttles?

We already have one, its at St Kilda Tram museum, I think that pretty much sums up how well it went.

No they are still running.

We already have one, its at St Kilda Tram museum, I think that pretty much sums up how well it went.

But how long ago was this? I suspect before most of the high rise in Glenelg. As I said before - worked with the tourist shuttle might make the difference.

thanks for that interesting info Alyx. My point in the end was really leaning towards an espresso/coffee shop idea rather than a restuarant as there has been culturally such a strong swing in this direction in recent years. (I had heard that the restuarant failed). Do it up in the grand colonial style and liveries. Not as expensive for visitors, needing casual clients, not as expensive to operate not as time consuming. As I said earlier it could work in conjunction with the Tourist Shuttle.
