Without knowing anything to do with this job, that apprears to be a 4 lift core box judging by its size.
If that is the case then that is far larger than is reqd for a car park which would generally be served by two lifts, and leads one to think the office componenent is indeed going ahead! :applause:

I've just had a look again through the development applications and the office componnnt has never received development approval so I doubt construction has commenced. Only the carpark has at this stage.

Don't you get absolutely sick of all these carparts - esp. in the light of bigger emphasis on PT and pushies. They must be making a fortune out of them. All IMO have V poor architectural merit and are tantamount to half completed high rise blocks and look more like blemishes amongst our other bldgs.

Maybe some of you urban design experts can answer this question.

Why do above ground car parks have to adhere to ventilation restrictions ?

Underground car parks don't have any ventilation.

I think if you re-examine your proposition above, you'll answer your own question.

They realllllllllllllllllllllly do. In fact if the ventilation in the car parks I worked in failed. We had to close the IN lane, open the OUT lanes, and get the heck off property as quickly as possible with a hand held radio to later call HQ when we were safely outside.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

But underground car parks don't have the ventilation from outside like above ground
car parks do.

I remember this was an issue with the rundle lantern. The people behind the project
could not smother the building because then the car park would not be well ventilated.

Simple. Enclosed car parks have ventilation systems while car parks with adequate natural ventilation don't. It's not that they couldn't have enclosed the Hungry Jacks car park with the Rundle Lantern, it was that they didn't have they money to install a ventilation system.

'Tis not only the installation cost, it's the running cost as well. All car parks have to be ventilated. But natural ventilation costs nothing, whereas forced ventilation requires electricity to run the fans.

And so we now understand why those ugly blocks persist - money. And as for that impressive art flanked by those 'lively' gardens Xara...
If car parks had artificial ventilation they would charge us a bigger fortune to use them - prohibitive level!

No fixed crane either - must be more expensive.

The most interesting side of this building is the northern side. They've gone to the effort of incorporating some design into the tilt-up slabs.
cheers,
