Looks good, especially with the schmick new Citadis tram behind it. Pity about ugly Ultimate Waterbeds sign. Whoever picked those colours ought to be shot.
Re: Glenelg Tram upgrade (#UC: South Rd Overpass)
yeah, that ultimate waterbeds just ruins the pic

Yay for a bit of colour on the side panels!
Will be interesting to see how much more 'green' it will look when finished - I recall something being mentioned about the residents requesting (and the government agreeing) it be given a 'green' look. Can't find mention of it on DTEI any more though. So far, all of the renders just show it as a rather somber grey.

I just hope that they can make this a real feature at night. I would be good if the green lit up with neons or lights, rather than a boring drab overpass...DM8 wrote:Yay for a bit of colour on the side panels!

Re: Glenelg Tram upgrade (#UC: South Rd Overpass)
Well they didn't put in neons in the underpass, so why would they do it for the overpass?
I too wish for neons and other colourful lighting.

Locals should be aware that there will be a closure of South Rd from 10pm today (Feb 19th) for the whole weekend.
The old track is coming up from under the overpass and other works which are better managed without passing traffic will be undertaken.
Here's H-Type 367 returning from a test run to the city and back.
She stopped for a couple of minutes on top before heading back to depot.
There are no other reports of an H using the overpass so this is probably the first.
Bill.

Re: Glenelg Tram upgrade (#UC: South Rd Overpass)
Friday the 19th of February 2010 - two excavators work to remove the tracks which remained embedded in South Rd under Adelaide's new overpass.
A diamond saw had previously cut the concrete (and rails) into manageable chunks. The orange machine would lift their edges and nudge them free before its yellow colleague lifted them out of the way and placed them into waiting trucks.
The pit in centre shot marks the location of the original track alignment. The orange machine is working above the temporary tracks which were part of the diversion.

Re: Glenelg Tram upgrade (#UC: South Rd Overpass)
Here's the next afternoon - bitumen laying underway. I went back around 9pm to find that everyone but the traffic controllers had left.
It turned out that because of the thickness of the bitumen, it had to be left overnight to cool down before the final layers were added.
Note the "Road Closed" sign to the left of the roller. This entrance to Norman Tce is now closed - traffic for this street will pass under the bridge,
turn left, then left again to pass back under the bridge and onto Norman Tce.

Would be most impressive if this took place. Expense will probably kill this idea. Did I mention that someone here in Kalbar has been looking into buying an H class and setting it up on rails in their yard as a tourist attraction and antiques shop.Shuz wrote:Well they didn't put in neons in the underpass, so why would they do it for the overpass?
