COM: [Glenelg] Bay Junction Shopping Centre | $60m
Re: #U/C: | Bay Junction | $60m | 3lvls | Retail | Glenelg
Considering its elitist perception, Burnside Village is particularly underwhelming.

I noticed a couple of days ago that this development includes a new car wash on the rooftop car park.
There's car washes starting everywhere in Adelaide at the moment.

Pure speculation but; might that have something to do with the water restrictions at people's households not applying to a commercial carwash?ghs wrote:I noticed a couple of days ago that this development includes a new car wash on the rooftop car park.

Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

A few new ones have popped up around Canberra too. I think it's the franchise fad of the moment.

There is definitely a market in Adelaide for good hand car washes and I think
there will be quite a few more opening over the next couple of years.
People enjoy the luxury of sitting down and having a coffee while other people clean
their car. Also the water restrictions have obviously made it hard for people to wash
their cars at home. Furthermore, those automatic car washes don't do a good job and can
scratch your car.

What is funny is that the trees are now gone.....baytram366 wrote:The trees are not actually that funny if you think about it.
The reason why they like are that is becuase the Council has deemed these trees significant and refused the developers permission to cut them down. So instead of kicking up a big legal fight with the council, the builders simply built around the trees and are just hoping and waiting for them to die so they then become a hazard and have to be removed.
This makes me quite angry actually...
WTF?

Another testiment to Adelaides bizarre and archaic (if perhaps very slowly improving) planning system. Surely it would have made far more sense for the council to simply sayAllkai wrote:What is funny is that the trees are now gone.....baytram366 wrote:The trees are not actually that funny if you think about it.

- "yes, remove the palm trees but relocate them elsewhere on the site", or
"we'll buy the trees from you and put them somewhere in a public place", or
"get rid of the trees but you must replace them with an equivelent quantity of alternative landscaping / plants and we need to see your plans for this before we give final approval".

haha... actually, if you look into it by legal definition, a palm tree is cannot be classified as a tree because it's technical definition is in fact a type of 'grass'.
If the developers did their research, they could have won that fiasco.

Yes I believe a palm "tree" is a monocot. Trees are dicots.Hippodamus wrote:haha... actually, if you look into it by legal definition, a palm tree is cannot be classified as a tree because it's technical definition is in fact a type of 'grass'.

I believe some councils have their own "interpretation". A clash of interpretations would result in threatening action, the chicken dance, and possible legal action. To my knowledge no one has been successfully prosecuted for tree damaging activity to a palm tree yet.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

So, um, yes. This is a rather unappealing building in person. What a shame.
