WOW! Now that's what I mean by exciting! Let's have more developments in Adelelaide with this standard of fun and imagination incorporated into the design.BillD wrote:Here are three shots from Saturday night, the 6th of March 2010. The canopy was continuously cycling through different colours and patterns.
The LED signs in the background were dazzling when displaying a lot of white.

I went to the open day today and was disappointed with the new theatre.
What they've done to the outside is good, but the new theatre is pretty ordinary.
I was expecting to see something like the Adelaide Festival Theatre with tiers and good
quality seats, but its just really a warehouse with plastic seats and no character at all.
I am sorry to be negative but it really didn't impress me at all.

I don't think the intention was ever to build a theatre for plays and operas, but instead a place for live music concerts.ghs wrote:I went to the open day today and was disappointed with the new theatre.

And for live music concerts that it the ideal setup.

I think the title AEC theatre is a bit misleading.
When I think of a theatre I think of the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
I think something like AEC Concert Hall would have been better.

The opening today was fantastic, what they have done to the place is pretty awesome. The tram ride was also quite quick, which was helped by efficient signalling along the line.
The tram service commences on 22 March.

The design and overall feel of the building is a lot better than it used to be, it reminds me of something that is usually found in other cities around the world, but we have that kind of a building right here in the Entertainment Centre in Adelaide. The build quality is excellent and it just has those small "niceties" that make a building stand out from the others.ghs wrote:What was so good about it ?Norman wrote:The opening today was fantastic, what they have done to the place is pretty awesome. That looks awesome! Good stuff.
Thebarton Theatre doesn't make me think of an opera venue!I think the title AEC theatre is a bit misleading.

At least thebarton theatre has a bit of character about it....
It also has an elevated tier which enables people sitting down to get a good view....

Photos from the Entertainment Centre open day. The entrance area facing out to Port Road is very impressive but the performing venues don't quite match the standard of the entrance.
The following are of the main, larger venue:

Thanks for all the pics mate - sure helps when living near Brisbane. Looks good inside, but even better outside - almost magnetic attraction - a true 'destination'.
