Absolutely agree - in current light rail magazines the number of cities adopting light rail/trams is increasing VERY rapidly. I believe that it behooves Adelaide to take advantage of the flat and straight streets (usually quite wide) in the inner suburban area. It is 'strange' how both parties are vague about this.

Hi,
I wonder on the morning of the Election how much money has been allocated for the expansion of the Adelaide Railway System past it's present boundaries.
I have said all along the Rann Government is City Centric.
When will they start spending money on the Outer Rail areas of the City.
Rail needs to be run to Mount Barker, Aldinga, Buckland Park, Riverton, Kapunda and last but not least the Barossa, the number 1 visitors destination for Aussie visitors and the number 5 destination for winery visitors in the world.
Why has Rann not made these plans in his election run up to today, in my opinion he is hoodwinking the South Australian public.

I don't think there are any plans by either major party to increase the size of the Adelaide rail network except for Seaford and, later down the track, Aldinga.

No matter who is State Government i would like to see Adelaide Metro bus services extended to the Gawler area because it would encourage people to leave their cars and catch the bus to do their daily tasks i.e. school, work, shopping and health services and give the people without a car a better and safe way to get around their local area. Public transport services are essential in more areas like this if we aim to reduce traffic, pollution, noise and improve accessibility. A local loop service linking Gawler with Willaston, Hewett, Gawler East, Evanston Park & Evanston would be ideal as a starter connecting with the train at Gawler or Gawler Central railway station to allow greater access to train services to other northern suburbs or the CBD.
Do yourself a favour and come to South Australia.

Rail to outlying destinations would be nice, but it's not anywhere near as important as building a railway under the City.
As for the destinations you've listed, why Riverton? Why Mount Barker when the trains will take so much longer than the buses? And how are you proposing to send trains to Buckland Park?
Why has Rann not made these plans in his election run up to today, in my opinion he is hoodwinking the South Australian public.
How can he be hoodwinking the public when there's no deception? Rann never said he would give those places rail services, and he's unlikely to start doing so now.

Wify207 Concerning the Barossa - is this the number one
winery destination for Australian visitors - can't be anything else - Sydney is a far greater crowd puller. however, it would be the
actual numbers going to the Barossa that would count concering a rail proposal. IMO it would be great to see rail, there again, but feasability would carry the day on this one.

Why build more rail lines when our existing rail infrastructure is heavily underutilised? We need more 'turn up and go' services on existing lines like the city tram shuttle not more lines. Bus routes could then be redesigned to better integrate with the rail 'spines' to make the overall, end-to-end journey faster and more pleasant.

I realise this may not be the correct thread, but I wonder if there is anyway of confirming the Rann Governments intentions over the next 4 years, in terms of tram and rail?

Instead of posting the idea all over the forums. How about making a list of Labor's promises, posting that somewhere in the Pub, and revisiting it once a month? Take the initiative!

the southern messenger reports that the seaford line is going to be interuppted by Aboriginal sacred sites and an alternate routes needs to be found
that is going to be interesting.

This was not researched beforehand??? Could be a serious problem - financially. (not familiar with aboriginal sacred sites around there).

On the contrary, it's a blessing in disguise! This gives us a new opportunity to switch to
the PB / Onkaparinga Council alignment which is cheaper to construct and has the Seaford Meadows station on high ground in the middle of the development. This makes it more energy efficient, requires fewer feeder bus routes, and would turn Seaford Meadows into one of Adelaide's most desirable suburbs, whereas the existing masterplan would turn it into one of the least desirable.

whilst it may be a benefit.. I don't mean to be rude but seaford medows as adelaides most desirable suburbs
hopefully your positivity rubs off and they can manage to make a positive out of a negative
