Spoke to someone here in Kalbar - (pop 800 and 50Km sth of Ipswich) who was looking into buying one of the H types (for$18000) and transporting it HERE ($4000) and setting it up here (my present hometown) on rails as stationary antiques shop!! What a stunning thing!!

H Class Tourist Shuttle
The tourist shuttle the H Class trams are running at the moment seems pretty useless to me, only running to stop 12, and it doesnt seem like their has been much patronage on it. Is their any particular reason why they arent going all the way to town?
I think to make this Historical Shuttle Tram Service better, it should run to the same place it used to in victoria sq, with its former terminus rebuilt, so it is true to history, and actually useful to people.
otherwise i say just forget about it, because i personally dont think it is worth it as is, although it is nice to see them sitting in mosely sq

Victoria Square's previous terminal won't be rebuilt, particularly not while the entire square is under review for redevelopment. There is no sound functional or historical reason for doing so. The previous terminus really isn't true to history at all since it replaced the previous terminating track on the western side of the square in 1966. The H class are becoming expensive to maintain and so short running makes sense. It's meant to be a tourist service after all, not a commuter service.

I think the H class trams are just that...class! That price for purchase and freight seems to me, very reasonable. Your idea Skyliner for bringing back a tram resturant would be an excellent thing for tourists and locals. Especially the buzz thats been happening in Adelaide for the last couple of months. We have so much tourist potential in SA for little outlay, that we really should fully utilise.
Scenic country rail trips to Clare, Barossa, McLaren Vale and Padthaway would be a great boost for us. Money shouldve been spent on upgrading those lines, not building that Wine centre, where the only good thing about that place is when Rann copped a blow from a few pieces of paper.

H367 tram has just 3 days left of its Free service between Moseley Square Glenelg and Morphett Road stop 12(no service on Good Friday).Its future at Glengowrie Depot would appear to be in doubt-the same for H370.
Unusual sight this morning with H367/H370/and a Flexity all coupled in the North Yard(the Flexity had its nose poking out of the maintenance track inside the depot).

On the other hand, people in hotels in the CBD would have an interest in going to Glenelg in a tourist vehicle, as would perhaps tourists in hotels in Glenelg have an interest in going to the city in such a vehicle. In addition, there would be casual traffic from commuters as well as from tourists who happen to see it go by in the city. Nobody likely to do that from stop 12 imo.
In any event, the present trial is doomed if it goes nowhere interesting (stop 12 is of no interest to tourists). Therefore, either don't waste money by trying something that cannot work, or give it a fair go before making any decision.

For the last few months, their stated intent has been to only keep 370 as a shunter once the Glenelg council's charter runs end.

So what is the reason they don't go to VSQ? Pretty obvious to me that stop 12 would bring it all to a halt.

Sunday the 11th of April 2010. H-type tram 367 makes five runs from Glenelg to Stop 12 and return to complete the final of the Glenelg council's chartered heritage runs. The 1:30 trip was cancelled due to an issue with a scheduled tram requiring the use of the layover. The final trip, which left the bay around 3:30 had a good proportion of enthusiasts. On the return, we had to wait at Brighton Road for five minutes to wait for a scheduled movement at the terminus - photographers alighted and took advantage of the situation.

Trams - up to 1950s
This image has got me thinking..
Where can I find info on who initiated the plans to rip up existing infrastructure? I've read they were losing money and so on, but it'd be interesting to know who where the wise guys who made the decision to remove something that today would be incredible desirable, a decent tram network.
Think, San Francisco, Melbourne, Prague..
